In 2024, the movie featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in superhero roles became the second most profitable film of the year, raking in an astounding $1.3 billion worldwide. It has recently overtaken “Barbie” ($636.2 million) to claim the position of the 12th highest-grossing North American release in history. What’s more, it now holds the record as the most successful R-rated movie ever made.

Under the direction of Shawn Levy (known for “Free Guy” and “Night at the Museum”), this movie focuses on Ryan Reynolds’ character, Wade Wilson, better known as Deadpool. His tranquil life is disrupted when the Time Variance Authority intrudes on his personal affairs. He then forms an uneasy alliance with Wolverine (portrayed by Jackman) to protect their world from a danger that spans multiple universes. This film marks a significant milestone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it features comic book characters who were previously owned by 20th Century Fox, which was purchased by The Walt Disney Company in 2019.

The movie features an abundance of cameos, including Chris Evans reprising his role as Johnny Storm (a.k.a. the Human Torch) from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Also making appearances are Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Wesley Snipes’ Blade, Dafne Keen’s X-23, and Channing Tatum’s Gambit – although Tatum’s Gambit had never previously been in one of the “X-Men” movies, there were longstanding rumors about him starring in a standalone.

In addition to other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) characters appearing, Happy Hogan portrayed by Jon Favreau, the Hulk, and Hunter B-15 played by Wunmi Mosaku from “Loki” make an appearance. Furthermore, there are various versions of Deadpool and Wolverine: Henry Cavill appears as Cavillrine, Blake Lively voices Ladypool (the character’s wife), Matthew McConaughey lends his voice to Cowboy Deadpool for a brief moment, and Nathan Fillion plays Headpool, a character who is just a floating head without a body.
