‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Overtakes ‘Joker’ as Highest-Grossing R-Rated Film in History With $1.08 Billion Globally

As a movie buff with decades of comic book cinema under my belt, I must say that the success of “Deadpool & Wolverine” is nothing short of astonishing! I remember the days when these characters were just licensing agreements between studios, and now they’re breaking box office records left and right. It’s like watching a superhero origin story unfold in real life.

Deadpool is living up to his self-appointed moniker as Marvel Jesus.

The second installment of Disney’s comic book series “Deadpool & Wolverine” surpassed “Joker” (2019) as the highest-grossing R-rated film ever, raking in a total of $1.085.6 billion worldwide. In the U.S., it made $516.8 million, while its international earnings amounted to $568.8 million.

As a die-hard cinephile, I’ve been absolutely thrilled by the epic universe-saving journey of Marvel’s latest blockbuster, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which graced our screens on July 26. In its domestic premiere alone, it raked in an impressive $211 million, securing a spot among the top six biggest opening weekends of all time! Since then, this action-packed duo has continued to captivate audiences, earning $516 million in North America and another $568 million internationally.

In a statement about “Deadpool & Wolverine” breaking the record for highest-grossing R-rated films, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, expressed gratitude and excitement: “We’re thrilled that our first R-rated movie has become the biggest ever. It’s wonderful to see that the audience is enjoying this film as much as we did while creating it. All those discussions were certainly worthwhile!”

“The movie ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reprising their roles as these antiheroes, stands out due to its integration of the comic book characters who were earlier under the ownership of 20th Century Fox, into the Marvel Cinematic Universe under Disney.”

Ticket sales have been extraordinary due to the return of Jackman’s rugged mutant Logan from retirement, along with directors Reynolds and Shawn Levy, who gathered a prestigious group of Fox-era characters for a film. This includes Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Chris Evans as Human Torch from “Fantastic Four,” Wesley Snipes as Blade, joining Deadpool and Wolverine on a mission to save the timeline. Given this impressive lineup, devoted fans have been eager to catch the movie as soon as possible to avoid being spoiled by plot surprises, significant appearances, or other secrets.
