‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Concept Art Reveals the Deadpool Variants That Never Made It, Including the ‘Wolverpool’ Hybrid of Both Superheroes

As a seasoned movie buff with decades of comic book-inspired film experiences under my belt, I can confidently say that the concept art for Wolverpool and Punkpool has me utterly thrilled! The fusion of these two iconic characters is a tantalizing tease that leaves fans yearning for more.

“The movie ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ showcases a host of iconic Deadpool characters, such as Lady Deadpool (portrayed by Blake Lively) and NicePool (performed by Ryan Reynolds), to name just a few. However, one character that didn’t appear in the film version of this Marvel blockbuster might have caused comic book enthusiasts to spontaneously combust: Wolverpool or perhaps Deadverine.”

David Masson, a concept artist for “Deadpool & Wolverine”, recently posted a design on Ryan Reynolds’ Instagram story. This design showcased what Wolverpool, a Deadpool variant that was initially considered for the movie but ultimately scrapped, might have looked like. The character sports a Deadpool suit with a revamped Wolverine mask and, as expected, the signature adamantium claws of Wolverine.

In the movie, neither Wolverpool nor Punkpool were included as planned characters. Artwork of Punkpool, a Deadpool version with a spiked leather jacket and a strong punk-anarchist vibe, was also shared by Masson.

Beginning its run at the end of July, “Deadpool & Wolverine” has surpassed all other R-rated films in box office earnings, amassing an impressive $1.15 billion globally. At present, it ranks as the second highest-grossing movie of 2024, trailing only “Inside Out 2,” which has earned a staggering $1.63 billion and continues to climb. Notably, both films were distributed by Disney.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” continues to play in theaters nationwide from Disney.
