‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Added Tribute to Rob Delaney’s Late Two-Year-Old Son After Ryan Reynolds ‘Kicked My Own Ass’ for Not Doing It in ‘Deadpool 2’

As a cinephile who has seen more movies than I can count, I must say that Ryan Reynolds‘ heartfelt tribute to Rob Delaney and his late son, Henry, in “Deadpool & Wolverine” is a powerful testament to the human spirit. It’s not often we see such raw emotion and vulnerability from a Hollywood star, especially one as action-packed as Deadpool.

As a huge fan, I’m sharing that Ryan Reynolds recently shared on Instagram his heartfelt decision to honor Rob Delaney’s late son, Henry, in the “Deadpool & Wolverine” scene. Being deeply moved by this tragic event and wishing I could have done more in “Deadpool 2,” he ensured this tribute was included. Tragically, Henry lost his life to a brain tumor in February 2018, mere months before the release of the second Deadpool sequel, when Henry was just two years old.

“Rob Delaney, your co-star who portrayed Peter in ‘Deadpool 2’ and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, is more complex than many might think according to Reynolds. He’s one of the most unconventionally hilarious individuals I’ve encountered. Rob is a sensitive, sharp, and exposed writer. If you remained till the end credits for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, you might spot a credit that reads, ‘For Henry Delaney.’ Henry was Rob’s son. Unfortunately, Henry passed away due to a brain tumor in 2018, just as we wrapped up ‘Deadpool 2’.”

“Reynolds noted that he’s often been self-critical for not including a tribute to Henry in the end credits of ‘Deadpool 2’. However, there seems to be a silver lining: more people are now seeing Henry’s name in the credits of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’. At last, both father and son appear on screen together.”

Later on, Reynolds enthusiastically endorsed Delaney’s 2022 memoir “A Heart That Works,” describing it as “a remarkable work of literature that delves into the vibrant spectrum of emotions unveiled by Henry’s passing.” He further mentioned the book provides an “uncensored, furious, tender, sorrowful, and yes, amusing (indeed, AMUSING) perspective on grief.”

“Reynolds found himself fortunate to know Rob, and he was equally grateful for friends who were prepared to take risks to help others not feel isolated.”

In the comic series “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Delaney’s character Peter reappeared and gained even more popularity as he took on his own superhero identity, Peter Pool. The actor shared with Digital Spy that stepping back into the role of Peter for a second time felt unique.

“He mentioned that he hadn’t been guided on what to express in this instance, but it seemed distinct. It appeared more substantial, without a doubt,” he stated. “In other words, despite feeling controlled, Ryan’s authorial voice was evident and it felt genuine. However, yes, it did seem larger than usual,” he pointed out.

“Currently showing in cinemas across the country, the action-packed duo of Deadpool and Wolverine! Check out Ryan Reynold’s heartfelt tribute to Delaney on his latest Instagram post.”
