Deadpool: Samurai suddenly goes on indefinite hiatus as creators are “looking for new jobs”

As a gamer with over two decades of comic book and manga reading under my belt, I must say that the sudden ending of Deadpool: Samurai Chapter 20 has left me quite bewildered. This series, which was a standout in the Marvel x Shonen Jump collaboration, had captured my attention since its debut in December 2020.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share my thoughts about how Deadpool: Samurai Chapter 20 has taken us all by surprise. The creators seem to have decided to part ways with this project, leaving us hanging with an abrupt ending.

From December 2020 onwards, Deadpool emerged as the standout sensation in the Marvel x Shonen Jump collaboration, a unique crossover that brought together numerous characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in manga style. As always, Deadpool, aka The Merc with a Mouth, seized center stage and was given his very own Shonen series, penned by Sanshiro Kasama and Hikaru Uesugi.

After twenty captivating chapters and what seemed like a triumphant course, the series has unexpectedly come to a halt. As announced by Shonen Jump, the Deadpool: Samurai saga is currently “on hold indefinitely” due to a variety of reasons.

Due to various unspecified reasons, the publication of “Deadpool: Samurai” by Sanshiro Kasama and Hikaru Uesugi on Shonen Jump+ App has been put on hold starting from Chapter 20. The creators have stated that they are unable to disclose the details but are currently seeking new employment opportunities.

The same update adds that neither Sanshiro nor Hikaru can reveal any more details, but both are actively searching for other gigs as of now. No other information was provided.

It’s clear that this is quite unexpected. Some speculate it might tie in with Deadpool mocking the first book of The Quintessential Quintuplets on Chapter 20’s cover.

It’s published by Kodansha, and joking about another publisher’s creations could have stirred some disagreements within the field. For now, this is just speculation, but it’s clear that Deadpool’s run as a competitor to Luffy and Goku has ended.

It doesn’t appear that there will be an anime series or film coming up – for now, at least. However, fans seemed to appreciate the crossover event that Wade was involved in.

“I wasn’t anticipating a match between Deadpool and The Quintuplets on my bingo card today,” comments the first person.
