As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the final update for Dead Cells, Update 35 – “The End is Near,” has left me both nostalgic and excited. Having followed this game since its Early Access days, it’s heartwarming to see how far it has come, and how the community has embraced it every step of the way.
Today marks the release of Update 35 for Dead Cells, titled “The End is Near,” which brings the game to its conclusion. This update is free on all platforms, including PC and consoles. According to a press statement from the Motion Twin team, this update signifies the end of the game’s narrative, updates, and technical support. In essence, Dead Cells is now complete!
As a dedicated fan, it’s bittersweet to acknowledge that we might not see further updates for Dead Cells in the future, but let me tell you, the developers have left us with an abundance of fresh content to explore! The latest Update 35 is truly monumental, marking one of the game’s largest expansions yet. This grand finale introduces three new enemies, two new weapons, three unique mutations, and a whopping 40 new heads. For all the specifics, be sure to check out the detailed patch notes. Enjoy the journey!
Members from Motion Twin have spent more than a decade crafting Dead Cells, and witnessing the community’s love for it as it progressed from Early Access, to its full release, 35 updates, and expansion packs, has been incredibly rewarding. Although some of the original Dead Cells developers have ventured into exciting new projects since launch, our team’s original vision for The Beheaded endures, and we want to commemorate this milestone with the community that helped make this game a resounding success.
After wrapping up Dead Cells with this last major update, the teams responsible for the game – Motion Twin and Evil Empire – are moving forward with new projects. Motion Twin has taken on creating its own rogue-lite game called Windblown, while Evil Empire is continuing work on The Rogue Prince of Persia, a recently launched roguelike title.
Steve Filby, CEO of Evil Empire, shared that he started working on Dead Cells at Motion Twin back in 2014. Since day one, he had been involved in the project in different capacities. He expressed disbelief that ten years later, he would be writing a final goodbye to the game. When they first launched Dead Cells, there was uncertainty about whether people would enjoy it. From Motion Twin to Evil Empire, it has been an honor and a joy for him to contribute to the game, engage with the community, and welcome new team members on this journey. Before he goes, he plans to start one more run of Dead Cells.
In honor of the latest update to the game, Dead Cells is being offered at a 50% reduction in price from now until August 26th on Steam.
