Dead Cells Final Update "The End Is Near" Launching August 19th

As a devoted fan who’s spent countless hours slashing, dodging, and exploring the intricate world of Dead Cells since its inception six years ago, I can’t help but feel a bittersweet mix of emotions as Motion Twin prepares to release Update 35, “The End is Near.”

As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled to share that the brilliant minds behind Dead Cells, the co-developers at Motion Twin, have officially unveiled their final content update! This exciting news was dropped just last week. Since its launch, this incredible roguelike Metroidvania has been consistently updated and supported across various platforms, with a PlayStation 5 release slated for 2023. The game has garnered widespread acclaim for its intricate level design and combat mechanics, making it a must-play for any gaming enthusiast like myself.

Six years following its debut, the developer has announced that they will discontinue support for Dead Cells with their final update, Update 35, which is set to be released on social media platforms. Known as “The End is Near,” this update will be available free of charge across all supported platforms on August 19th, 2024. It includes a wealth of new content, quality-of-life enhancements, bug fixes, and more, as detailed in the patch notes.

The final update for Dead Cells, which we’ve been working on, will be released in three weeks from now. It’ll feel a bit peculiar to cease updates after all the progress made (including DLC), but let’s face it – you can already sink countless hours into this game! 😄

Update 35 for Dead Cells, titled “The End is Near,” is set to release on August 19th, 2024, across PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox platforms. As per the update notes, gamers can look forward to a wealth of fresh content. This includes introducing three new mob enemies designed to enhance the exploration experience, as well as unveiling new Curse variations: Anathema, Indulgence, and Misericorde.

As a gamer, I’m excited about the upcoming update! It’ll introduce three colorless mutations and some legendary affixes for various weapons. Plus, there are new heads up for grabs, but you’ll need to have a chat with the Tailor’s Daughter to learn how to equip them.

Motion Twin will dedicate all their time to their upcoming project, Windblown, following the launch of “The End is Near.” In April 2024, they shared a Gameplay Trailer for this multiplayer roguelike game, and in July 2024, they posted a Dev Log detailing updates made to the game. Currently, Windblown is available in Early Access on Steam for PC players.
