David Tennant Says He Had His ‘Eye On’ the Role of Reed Richards In ‘The Fantastic Four’ Before Pedro Pascal Was Cast: ‘They’ve Gone In a Different Direction’

Had events unfolded otherwise, David Tennant might have become the public persona associated with another prominent brand or series.

At MCM Comic Con, when a fan inquired which superhero he’d like to portray, the ex-“Doctor Who” actor expressed his desire to play Reed Richards, or Mister Fantastic, in the upcoming Marvel blockbuster “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” Although the role eventually went to Pedro Pascal, Tennant maintained a positive outlook and showed no resentment over not getting the part.

Regarding superheroes, I had considered Reed Richards, but it seems they’re choosing another path instead,” Tennant mentioned. “Still, I’m quite content if the role eventually goes to Pedro Pascal.

I can’t wait to catch ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ in theaters on July 25! Among the talented cast, I’m particularly excited to see Pascal bring the titular shapeshifter to life. The film also features Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (Human Torch), Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (The Thing), Julia Garner as Silver Surfer, and Ralph Ineson as Galactus. What a star-studded lineup!

Following the introduction of “The Fantastic Four,” comic book enthusiasts won’t get another Marvel film until “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” hits theaters on July 31, 2026. This time gap is the longest interval between Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies since “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” which was released in 2019, and “Black Widow,” which premiered in 2021.

The postponement of the much-awaited “Avengers: Doomsday” movie has caused an extension in the release schedule. This upcoming film, boasting the biggest gathering of Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes yet, was initially slated for a May 1, 2026 premiere, but has now been rescheduled for December 18, 2026. Its sequel, “Avengers: Secret Wars,” which was originally due on May 7, 2027, has also been moved to December 17, 2027.
