David Lynch’s family may release ‘risky’ final script for unmade Netflix series

Before his passing, David Lynch was working on a new limited series for Netflix, which may one day see the light of day as his final script.

The highly acclaimed filmmaker passed away on January 16. Known for his unique and frequently astonishing films, whether it’s Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, or nearly anything else throughout his career spanning several decades.

In contrast to his last movie, Inland Empire, which came out in 2006, David Lynch produced a black-and-white short film titled “What Did Jack Do” for Netflix in 2017. This film features Lynch himself as a detective questioning a monkey.

Although it’s unlikely that the “mystery” series created by Lynch for Netflix will ever come to fruition, his family wishes for his devoted fans to have an opportunity to read it instead.

David Lynch’s final script could be released

According to Jennifer Lynch’s statement in an interview with The Times, none of the family members attempted to produce their father’s series on their own.

We’re contemplating making this available for public consumption, allowing people to ponder his thoughts. It would be unfortunate if they missed out on it.

Additionally, she mentioned that Kyle MacLachlan, famously known for his roles in Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, and Dune, has reportedly been chosen for the show; however, it’s yet to be confirmed as an official cast member.

Jennifer confirmed, “I’ve taken an oath of confidentiality, but I believe Kyle would definitely have been involved. The same goes for Laura [Dern] and Naomi [Watts]. He always enjoyed spending time with his friends.

The show was named “Unrecorded Night,” but, as per previous news, it has been taken off the air because of the ongoing pandemic.

According to Deadline, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos expressed that he’d often ponder over David Lynch’s plans for his final project.

Since it was a David Lynch-produced work, brimming with enigma and audacity, we eagerly chose to embark on this imaginative journey with such a creative genius. Unfortunately, first Covid-19 and then some health concerns prevented the project from being made. However, we made it clear that as soon as he was well enough, we were fully committed to moving forward together.

It’s unclear when or how Lynch’s final script will be released.
