Darkwing II Survives the Invincible War, Disappears for Years!

In Invincible Season 3 Episode 7, Darkwing II joins forces with The Guardians to battle a wicked version of Mark. If you’re interested in learning more about his fate in the comic books, you’ve come to the right spot!

In the story of Invincible, Darkwing II is making amends for his past actions which included taking lives within Midnight City. Subsequently, Mark brought him to the GDA, yet even after a brief imprisonment, Cecil felt that his talents could be utilized more constructively.

In the opening act of the game, I made my reappearance as a revamped superhero, carrying the weight of my past misdeeds. “I’ve done wrong,” I admitted, “But that was then, now I’m striving to be better, all thanks to Cecil.” Later on, the Immortal extended a warm welcome, inducting me into the ranks of the Guardians.

Jump ahead to Episode 7, and the world is confronting its most severe crisis ever: the Invincible War, where Angstrom Levy has amassed close to 20 Mark Graysons from different universes, intending to assault Earth. The following discussion contains spoilers…

Does Darkwing II die in the Invincible comics?

In the Invincible comics, Darkwing II doesn’t meet his end, however, following the Invincible War, there’s a significant gap before he reappears.

In Issue #60, the malevolent Invincibles bring destruction to various parts of the globe, prompting the Guardians to engage one of their mutated enemies. Unfortunately, this encounter doesn’t end favorably: Shapesmith is torn apart, the Immortal loses his head, Dupli-Kate and her replicas are mowed down, and Black Samson takes a severe beating. Fortunately, all of them manage to survive.

1. “You’re a disgrace, it’s hard to believe I managed to defeat you all so effortlessly,” he yells, until Darkwing II sneaks up from behind and attacks him. “We’re not completely out of this fight,” he replies, pulling the duplicate into the Shadow-Verse. Eventually, Black Samson wonders if Darkwing met his end in the Shadow-Verse – leaving the duplicate stranded forever.

2. “You’re a real letdown, I can hardly believe it was this simple to take you all out,” he yells, until Darkwing II catches him off guard from behind. “We’re not done yet,” he says, hauling the copycat into the Shadow-Verse. Eventually, Black Samson starts to suspect that Darkwing didn’t make it out of the Shadow-Verse – leaving the duplicate stuck there forever.

Should you leap straight to Issue #144, which is the concluding installment of the comic, Darkwing II mysteriously reappears – not entirely from “nowhere”, but rather a place that’s somewhat obscure.

No need for concern, I won’t reveal any more details from the previous issue. Let me summarize instead: In this installment, a band of heroes are engaged in combat with two antagonists known as Vengeance and Wrath. One of them unexpectedly expels Darkwing II out from some sort of emptiness or void.

Here it is, Darkwing eventually returns; the duration until that moment remains unknown for now, so keep an eye out for more updates.
