Dark Souls 3 Boss Slave Knight Gael Deserves a Spot in Elden Ring Nightreign

In the grim realm of Dark Souls 3, few enemies have left a more indelible mark on certain players than Slave Knight Gael. This isn’t merely due to his difficulty level, one of the toughest designed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, but also because of his compelling backstory, brilliantly portrayed through some of the most chilling dialogues ever penned.

Additionally, given that some notable villains from the Dark Souls universe are being revived by Elden Ring Nightreign, it seems fitting that we also get to encounter Slave Knight Gael and perhaps even face the terror of The Nameless King in combat, which players may encounter at the end of the game.

This one Dark Souls 3 boss deserves a spot in Elden Ring Nightreign

In contrast to traditional final bosses, Slave Knight Gael isn’t your common type. He made his debut subtly within the The Ringed City DLC, serving faithfully in search of the “blood of the dark soul as pigment for the Painted World.

Gael, found in Dark Souls 3, isn’t just challenging – he’s exceptionally tough. What makes him unique is that he combines gameplay difficulty with a compelling narrative role, setting him apart as one of the most significant bosses across the trilogy. Engaging with him in battle requires perseverance through three demanding stages before you can defeat him.

As a gamer, I’d put it this way: Man, it’s awesome that you can call this guy into the game as an NPC and he’ll lend a hand in some tough battles! He even sticks around for Sister Freide’s boss fight, during both phases. Let me tell you, players often find themselves in hot water during their own boss fights against Gael, as his damage can be so high it might make an already stressed player snap and shatter a controller or two!

What stands out most is the boss’s conversations during gameplay interactions. These dialogues give the impression that you’re not facing an enemy but a person who has lost everything, yet still standing tall. This brings us to Elden Ring Nightreign, where its dark undertones and focus on resurrecting forgotten legends create the ideal opportunity for Gael’s revival once more.

Slave Knight Gael in Elden Ring Nightreign: A perfect fit

Since Slave Knight Gael hails from Dark Souls 3, it’s not justifiable to have him appear as a repetitive foe like in his original game. Instead, he should receive a well-deserved remake with updated mechanics and fresh lore that continues to uphold his legacy, drawing inspiration from the 2016 title.

Although Elden Ring Nightreign appears to offer an ideal setting for some classic encounters, it seems regrettably clear that the renowned boss from Dark Souls 3 will not feature in the upcoming game. As we eagerly anticipate its launch on May 30th, the absence of this iconic adversary increasingly feels like a squandered chance.

As a die-hard fan, it feels like the final glimmer of excitement is the hint of a forthcoming DLC for “Nightreign”, which was unveiled alongside its collector’s edition. Not only does this promise additional content and Nightfarers, but FromSoftware seems eager to introduce new Nightlords as well. For me, there’s no character more fitting for the role of a Nightlord right now than Slave Knight Gael.

The highly-anticipated Elden Ring Nightreign is set to make its grand debut on the 30th of May, 2025. You can enjoy it on a variety of platforms including PC, Xbox One, Series S, Series X, and both PlayStation 4 and 5.
