As a seasoned film enthusiast with a penchant for gritty crime thrillers and a soft spot for stories that resonate with real-life experiences, I am genuinely enthused about the upcoming release of “The G”. The film’s intriguing narrative, coupled with its impressive accolades from various international film festivals, piqued my interest.
As an enthusiastic admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the masterful Canadian crime thriller “The G” has sealed a U.S. distribution deal with Dark Sky Films. This gripping tale, skillfully directed by Karl R. Hearne, revolves around Ann Hunter, better known as The G, who valiantly takes on a corrupt eldercare system.
“The G” will be represented by the Playmaker at next week’s American Film Market.
Based on true incidents, “The G” is a gripping, suspenseful drama that combines elements of crime with deep human feelings, showcasing an outstanding portrayal by Dale Dickey. Her performance earned her the Best Actress award at the Bari Film Festival and Festival Fantasmagoria. Furthermore, the film received a Special Jury Mention for Best Director at the Fantasia Film Festival, and Hearne won the Best Screenplay Award at Festival Fantasmagoria.
The film known as ‘The G’ has been screened at the Tallinn Black Nights Festival, Glasgow Film Festival, Fantasia Film Festival, Fantaspoa, and the Reims Polar Film Festival.
This work, titled “Hearne’s Second Feature,” follows as a sequel to his previous piece, “Touched” (released in 2019). Notably, this earlier creation was recognized with a nomination for the category of best first feature at the Canadian Screen Awards.
In a tranquil suburban setting, Ann Hunter, affectionately known as The G, and her spouse embark on their retirement. However, their serene life is disrupted when a crooked legal guardian takes control of their possessions, imprisoning them in a harsh nursing home. Caught within an oppressive system, Ann forms an alliance with her devoted granddaughter to battle for liberation and retribution. Based on true incidents, “The G” offers a gripping winter-noir narrative that combines suspense, black humor, and raw emotion, fueled by Dickey’s compelling portrayal of strength and rebellion in an uncommon, impactful leading role.
For quite some time, Dark Sky has earned a respected position as a distributor in the genre field within the U.S. market. We are delighted that the talented Dark Sky team will now focus on our thriller ‘The G’ and bring it to movie theaters across the U.S.,” stated Moritz Heminnger, head of sales and acquisitions.
The film is produced by 3Buck Productions.
