‘Dark Matter’ Renewed for Season 2 at Apple TV+

As a seasoned sci-fi enthusiast with a penchant for mind-bending narratives and a soft spot for alternate realities, I must admit that the renewal of “Dark Matter” on Apple TV+ has me absolutely giddy! Having traversed the multiverse of “Stranger Things,” the parallel dimensions of “Fringe,” and the time-loop conundrums of “Russian Doll,” I am more than ready to embark on yet another thrilling exploration of the multiverse.

“Dark Matter” has been renewed for Season 2 at Apple TV+.

News has emerged about the show’s revival, approximately a month since its Season 1 finale on June 26. The science fiction-thriller series is adapted from the book of the same name by Blake Crouch. The series features Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi, and Oakes Fegley in its cast.

“Crouch expressed gratitude to everyone who watched season one, whether longtime book enthusiasts or new viewers, as well as our collaborators at Apple and Sony, my outstanding producing partner Matt Tolmach, our dedicated cast and crew, the welcoming city of Chicago, for their hospitality. While creating and filming season one, we realized there’s a lot more story to unfold, and we’ve barely begun exploring the depths of these characters as they navigate survival and find their way home amidst confounding realities. Until next time, see you in the Box!”

On this series, Crouch plays multiple roles: creator, executive producer, showrunner, and writer, with Matt Tolmach serving alongside him in the same capacity. Additionally, Edgerton and Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry are also credited as executive producers. The studio behind this project is Sony Pictures Television.

“It’s a long-held aspiration of mine to create ‘Dark Matter’, and I’m immensely proud to witness Blake’s vision being realized and connecting with numerous viewers,” said Tolmach. “The journey of the Dessens has deeply resonated with audiences, and we eagerly anticipate expanding this universe – and others – in season two. A big thank you to Apple TV+, Sony, and our outstanding team of cast and crew. Let’s embark on this exciting journey together!”

The series narrative reveals that “Jason Dessen (Edgerton), a physicist, professor, and family man, is unexpectedly kidnapped off the streets of Chicago into an alternate existence. Initially, curiosity prevails, but soon turns into terror as he attempts to return to his original world amidst a bewildering array of lives he could have led. Navigating this maze of realities, he embarks on a perilous quest to reunite with his true family and safeguard them from the most menacing adversary conceivable – none other than himself.”

“Matt Cherniss, Apple TV+’s programming chief, praises ‘Dark Matter’ as an engaging and thought-provoking series that has rapidly gained worldwide popularity. It has successfully ignited viewers’ imaginations and established itself as a significant addition to Apple’s top-tier sci-fi collection. We are delighted to carry on our partnership with Blake Crouch, Sony, and the rest of the creative team, including stars Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly, in producing another season filled with unexpected plots as we delve further into the enigmas of the multiverse.”
