In a chilling finale, Daredevil: Born Again leaves New York in a state of fear: all vigilantes are now banned – those who resist face execution or imprisonment. So, what about Spider-Man‘s fate in this new lawless city?
Towards the end of Daredevil’s second-to-last episode, Bullseye attempted to kill Wilson Fisk, but Matt intervened to protect him. If you thought Kingpin might soften his feelings towards Matt or the heroes in New York City, you haven’t been watching closely.
Rather than tolerating Matt’s vigilantism, he decides to eliminate him (implying “It’s preferable to have a fallen hero than an active vigilante”) and dispatches his team to apprehend any city heroes, be they the Swordsman or The Punisher.
Eventually, Matt opts to rally a military force with the intention of reclaiming the city. This leads one to wonder: just what has Spider-Man been up to during all these days?
Where is Spider-Man in Daredevil: Born Again?
In the intense conflict between Wilson Fisk’s campaign against vigilantes and the citywide chaos in New York City, it might seem logical for Spider-Man to join forces with Daredevil. However, surprisingly, he is absent during the entirety of the first season of Born Again.
It’s quite puzzling that he was portrayed as a villain initially, given that we see him transform into a friendly neighborhood superhero named Spider-Man by the end of No Way Home. Fisk even hinted at him earlier in the series, referring to someone who wears a spider costume.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s plausible that the events of Avengers: Endgame have already started unfolding, and I might be part of this grand spectacle – that could be why my character seems to have disappeared. Alternatively, maybe I’m already deep in the plot for Spider-Man 4, a tale that once hinted at involving Kingpin.
I was really looking forward to seeing Spidey swing into action on Disney+, but it seems like that might not happen anytime soon. According to Brad Winderbaum, Sony apparently holds exclusive live-action TV rights for Spider-Man. This could mean that they’re the only ones who can bring him to life in a TV series, which leaves him out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s shows on Disney+. Bummer!
Our Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman.
It’s not necessarily suggesting that Spider-Man won’t be present at all; considering Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock) made a cameo in “No Way Home,” it’s possible that Tom Holland (Peter Parker) might make an appearance in “Born Again Season 2” as well.
In simpler terms, Charlie Cox said to Rotten Tomatoes, “I believe there’s a rich history and many tales to share about Spider-Man, which holds great significance for both of us as fans. If you’ve ever read the comics or grown up with them, that connection will always make you want to explore more aspects of it.
While waiting, let’s explore what details we have about Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 and see how its closing credits scene sets up Jon Bernthal’s Punisher spin-off. Additionally, check out where Daredevil: Born Again stands in our ranking of all Marvel TV series.
