Daredevil Finale Shocks: Punisher’s Dark Spinoff Teased in Epic Post-Credits Scene!

In a somewhat unresolved manner, the storyline of Daredevil: Born Again came to an end, and a scene after the credits subtly paves the way for The Punisher’s upcoming standalone special. (Spoilers alert.)

In the ninth episode of Daredevil: Born Again, entitled ‘Straight to Hell’, ended quite bleakly for Matt Murdock and his companions. The city of New York was in chaos, while Kingpin maintained his dominant position.

In his role as mayor, Wilson Fisk implemented a citywide curfew, imposed martial law, and brutally took out the Police Commissioner.

Or, more concisely: As mayor, Wilson Fisk enforced a curfew, instated martial law, and eliminated the Police Commissioner violently.

Additionally, he gathered his adversaries and foes, among whom was Frank Castle, and confined them. However, a sequence during the closing credits hints that The Punisher may not remain imprisoned for much longer.

How Daredevil: Born Again sets up Punisher special

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve been thrilled about Marvel’s latest move on Disney+ – the ‘Special Presentation’, which gives beloved characters their own standalone mini-movies! Last year, we had the chills with Werewolf by Night, and just recently, we got into the festive spirit with the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. It’s a fantastic way to delve deeper into the Marvel Universe!

Born Again will trigger events leading to a unique treatment for The Punisher.

In a more casual rephrasing: The scenario opens with Frank Castle confined within a subterranean cell. As a guard passes by, Frank initiates a friendly conversation by inquiring about the guard’s day and asking for his name. The guard responds with “Anthony Petruccio.

As I look at you, Anthony Petruccio, I nod approvingly and say, “That’s quite a powerful name you have there! I can’t help but wonder, where do you hail from, Anthony Petruccio?”

Or in a more casual tone:

“Nice name, Anthony Petruccio. Mind telling me where you’re from?

In response, the guard says “Jersey,” and Frank replies, “I suspected as much. I had a hunch. Do you know anything about me, Anthony? Even a little? Well then, I’m grateful for that. You took a minute to acknowledge me. It’s a privilege to make your acquaintance.

In this scenario, Frank extends his hand through a jail cell opening, and the guard shakes it. However, Castle (presumably a prisoner) grips Frank’s hand, breaks it, followed by breaking the guard’s arm. This violent action leads to the guard being unable to stop him, thus enabling Castle’s escape. The story concludes with Castle, also known as the Punisher, appearing ready for his upcoming special presentation, possibly hinting at further actions or appearances.

Jon Bernthal says spinoff will be “dark”

Regarding anticipation for The Punisher spinoff, Jon Bernthal (the actor portraying Frank Castle) spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and shared: “I have a strong affection for Frank, I’m thankful for the chance to share the story that I believe fans deserve. We’re putting maximum effort into it, aiming to deliver a Frank Castle narrative that may leave the audience surprised.

This won’t be a walk in the park, it may even be challenging, but I believe it’s the right approach for this character. I’m truly humbled and thankful for the chance to do it.

About the tone, Bernthal mentioned: “It’s going to be quite grim; Frank doesn’t plan on alleviating the gloom. It won’t be a walk in the park… Rest assured, it won’t be a lighter version of The Punisher.

Currently, Bernthal is collaborating with director Reinaldo Marcus Green on a standalone special that’s scheduled to air in the year 2026. This special is separate from “Daredevil: Born Again,” which is also anticipated to debut around the same time.
