Daredevil Finale Just Broke These 10 MCU Heroes!

Heed this warning! The season finale of “Daredevil: Born Again” brought shocking revelations for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, significantly altering numerous characters within the franchise. In the closing scenes of “Daredevil: Born Again’s” first season, Wilson Fisk successfully implemented his Safer Streets initiative as mayor of New York City, making all vigilante activities illegal and empowering his crooked police force with excessive legal authority. Consequently, the lives of many Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes living in New York City have been profoundly affected by these changes.

For inhabitants of a key city in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kingpin’s proclamation is an overt act of conflict. While not every active hero residing in New York can rely on the law to shield them, figures like Doctor Strange, Wong, and the Sanctum Santorum remain detached from ordinary society’s concerns. Characters such as Ms. Marvel, situated just beyond the city limits, barely dodged Kingpin’s crackdown on superheroes. It seems probable that Daredevil’s following will consist primarily of individuals who have been directly impacted by these events.

10. Daredevil

Obviously, His Archnemesis Has Made His Life Much Harder

Absolutely, the events concluding the first season of the Daredevil series significantly impact Daredevil himself. By the end of the first season, Daredevil has resumed his heroic duties, but it couldn’t have come at a worse moment – he puts on his dark costume just as Kingpin ascends to power and outlaws superhero activities. To make matters worse, Kingpin has attempted to eliminate Matt Murdock twice – once at the hospital and another time at his own home.

In the second season of “Daredevil: Born Again,” Matt must exercise caution and amass as many allies to help him survive. The Kingpin seems determined to eliminate Matt, constantly sending threats against him, and the Anti-Vigilante Task Force poses a constant threat to his private life. It appears that Matt’s days as Matt Murdock living peacefully will be on hold for some time. Given the circumstances, it seems that Matt may have to embrace his heroic role once more until Kingpin is removed from power permanently. Let’s hope Matt is ready to take up the mantle again!

9. The Punisher

Seems To Have Broken Out Of Captivity

In the story “Daredevil: Born Again,” The Punisher significantly alters his stance, becoming actively involved in Daredevil’s conflict against Kingpin’s task force. This shift is prompted by a call from Karen Page, leading Frank to take action against Kingpin’s followers with full force. Despite being outmatched and apprehended, The Punisher was captured alive, raising speculation that he might have been saved due to the police force’s admiration for him, given their corruption.

In the post-credits sequence of the season finale, Frank Castle manages to escape, tricking an unaware fan into shaking his hand before overpowering them and snatching the keys. While the police might have previously offered him some level of immunity, under Kingpin’s new regulations, he’ll probably find himself with a significantly larger bullseye on his back. To add to his troubles, he may need to confront Fisk and his associates about past wrongs.

8. Spider-Man

Has Nothing But His Hero Activity

As a movie enthusiast, I found it rather peculiar that Spider-Man was conspicuously missing from the entire season of “Daredevil: Born Again”. The last time viewers caught a glimpse of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, the world had mysteriously forgotten him, leaving him completely detached from his former companions. With no other options, he donned a homemade Spider-Man suit and reemerged as a hero, for the first time in the minds of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) inhabitants. Now, it seems clear that Spider-Man has become one of the vigilantes that Kingpin aims to eliminate from the city’s streets.

Given that Spider-Man is arguably the most powerful hero based in New York City and also the one who poses the greatest challenge to Kingpin, his true identity remains a mystery due to his lack of connections. This makes it difficult for the Anti-Vigilante Task Force to capture him. However, since being a vigilante seems to be the only thing that defines Peter at this stage in his life, the ban on masked heroes feels like a direct threat to his very existence.

7. Swordsman

Also In Kingpin’s Custody

One character who made only limited appearances in season one of Daredevil: Born Again was Jack Duquesne, also known as the Swordsman. In Hawkeye, Jack initially seemed like a villain but turned out to be a wealthy hero instead. The series hinted at his comic book persona as Swordsman with a quick sequence showing him using his fencing abilities against some mafia goons. By the time of Daredevil: Born Again, Duquesne has officially adopted the role of Swordsman, as confirmed by some cell phone footage.

Jack Duquesne can be found imprisoned in Kingpin’s hideous underground cell, sharing confinement with The Punisher and various adversaries of the Kingpin. It remains uncertain if he’ll be rescued by Frank Castle before leaving, given The Punisher’s notorious lack of camaraderie with other heroes. In his professional life, Jack Duquesne is one of Kingpin’s toughest adversaries because of his substantial influence and wealth in the financial and legal circles of New York City.

6. Kate Bishop

One Of New York’s Newest Heroes

A key character who operates out of New York City and is temporarily known as “Hawkeye” alongside the original Avenger is Kate Bishop. In the comics series “Hawkeye,” Kate steps into the role of a hero, inflicting a humiliating loss on Kingpin. Although much has transpired since their previous confrontation with the fearsome crime lord, his rise to the position of mayor presents significant dangers for her.

Kate Bishop isn’t exactly a covert superhero; she doesn’t hide behind a mask and is quite well-known as the heiress of a prominent business empire. Recently, Ms. Marvel has invited her to join the Young Avengers, but it seems that stopping Kingpin’s tyranny against heroes is more important to her. It’s possible that Kingpin himself may eventually target Kate to settle their personal issues.

5. Luke Cage

A Powerful Crime Boss In His Own Right

The merging of Netflix’s narrative with the Marvel Cinematic Universe expands the roster of vigilantes within this universe, with Luke Cage being one such character. Endowed with superhuman strength, resilience, and indestructible skin following an experiment, Luke Cage has taken on a significant role. Following the conclusion of his own series, he now wields power as the crime boss of Harlem.

Luke Cage not only confronts Kingpin as a powerful vigilante, but his presence also endangers Kingpin’s illegal operations. Given that Luke Cage is essentially a rival crime boss, he could potentially try to undermine Kingpin’s business empire in pursuit of power. This becomes even more likely now that vigilantes are seen as less of a threat due to the Safer Streets Initiative. However, despite being a criminal himself, Luke Cage possesses a good heart and strong empathy which might motivate him to join forces with his former Defenders teammates in their fight against crime.

4. Iron Fist

Technically A Hero No Longer, But Still A Major Player

From my perspective as a movie critic, the intriguing aspect of Iron Fist lies in how one character navigates Fisk’s rule. In essence, Danny Rand is no longer the active vigilante he once was, having relinquished the role of the Iron Fist at the end of season 2. Instead, he departed New York City for Asia on a quest to locate Orson Randall. This decision, however, did not diminish his power; quite the contrary, it seems he has rekindled the potency of the Iron Fist. Remarkably, Danny can now summon two chi-infused limbs simultaneously.

It appears that Fisk’s actions continue to pose significant challenges for Danny Rand, even while he is abroad. Given Rand’s history of vigilante activities and recent acquisition of the power to enhance firearms with Chi, he could prove to be a formidable adversary should he return and decide to resume his vigilantism against Kingpin.

3. Colleen Wing

The Next Iron Fist And Current New York City Protector

Even though Danny isn’t around, there’s still an active Iron Fist in New York City – it’s none other than Danny Rand’s significant other, Colleen Wing. An expert martial artist and ex-soldier of the criminal group The Hand, Colleen eventually took the heroic path during their conflicts. Along the way, she acquired Danny Rand’s Iron Fist powers and learned to imbue her katana with incredible power using Chi.

In the bustling city of New York, Colleen Wing, a relentless vigilante tackling criminals such as bank robbers, finds herself under threat from Kingpin’s Safer Streets Initiative. Being an ordinary citizen without a superhero identity or costume, she remains vulnerable in her everyday life, making her an attractive target for one of the Anti-Vigilante Task force’s raids. Though capturing Colleen might not be straightforward, Kingpin’s growing authoritarian rule in New York City significantly impacts her life.

2. Jessica Jones

A Rough-And-Yumble P.I. With A Vigilante Streak

Describing Jessica Jones as a straightforward superhero would be far from accurate, but it’s almost certain that she’ll find herself tangled in Kingpin’s martial law due to her profession as a tenacious private investigator with extraordinary abilities. Despite her career filled with intrigue and encounters with numerous supervillains, Jessica Jones has managed to maintain her cynical demeanor throughout.

In essence, although Jessica Jones operates a legitimate business, it’s quite possible that her use of powers will fall under the jurisdiction of Kingpin’s revised regulations. It won’t be long before Jones finds herself handling a case that draws her close to Fisk, entangled in some form of city corruption. This assignment might even come from one of his numerous adversaries. Jessica Jones may not wear a mask, but she functions as an unofficial vigilante in Kingpin’s New York City, making her a marked individual.

1. Misty Knight

Still Not Sure If She’s A Cop Or A Hero

Misty Knight’s world isn’t altered by Kingpin due to his corrupt police force affecting her, but because she is an active member of that force. As a detective in New York City, Misty Knight has been involved with Luke Cage, Colleen Wing, and Danny Rand, using her skills for their various adventures and even sacrificing her arm to save Claire Temple’s life. Fitted with a prosthetic arm, Misty Knight was last seen debating whether she is a vigilante or a police officer, but it seems Kingpin’s rise to power might have influenced her to lean towards the role of a vigilante.

Given the police force has been weakened significantly and the Anti-Vigilante Task Force has been granted excessive emergency powers, it’s highly probable that Misty Knight has chosen to leave the NYPD permanently. Maintaining integrity and adhering to her conscience might be challenging if not impossible for her, especially when it comes to carrying on Fisk’s questionable tasks. The climactic events of Daredevil: Born Again may have tipped Misty, who straddles the line between law and order, over into making a definitive choice.
