Although Daredevil: Born Again hasn’t fully wrapped up yet, production for Season 2 has already started! And you know what that implies? That’s right – we’re getting set photos!
Indeed, it appears that Hell’s Kitchen has developed a problem with water seeping in, and before Marvel Studios could summon the plumbers to tackle this issue, images of Charlie Cox and Deborah Ann Woll filming on the streets of New York City began circulating online like a wave.
These photos (that we’re unable to share due to copyright issues) are intriguing because both Cox and Woll are sporting fresh appearances in the upcoming Marvel series. Instead of his traditional suit (not the red one), Cox is seen wearing a more laid-back hoodie, while it seems like Woll or her character Karen has dyed her hair red.
Initially, it may appear harmless – after all, nobody is breaking any rules by dyeing their hair or taking part in casual dress days occasionally, and Matt deserves some leeway. However, I’m concerned that these transformations might signal trouble ahead for Matt Murdock. In fact, I’d argue they could be a harbinger of unwelcome developments.
Exposed
As a devoted fan, I’ve been analyzing the photos from Born Again Season 2 and here’s my take: It appears Matt Murdock might be unmasked as Daredevil, forcing him and his closest companions to flee. My reasoning is twofold. Firstly, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a hoodie often serves as the disguise of choice for heroes on the run. Secondly, the photos suggest a sense of urgency and secrecy that seems consistent with this scenario. Fingers crossed we get to see more of this exciting storyline unfold!
Consider characters like Steve Rogers as Captain America, Scott Lang as Ant-Man and The Wasp, Captain Marvel, and even Thor. They all disguised themselves using hoodies, hats, and glasses. This disguise setup has become so common among fans that articles were actually written discussing Black Widow for not using it (believe it or not).
Matt adopting the attire of a disillusioned young adult (a term that seems repetitive) implies he’s trying to blend in inconspicuously. It’s interesting to note that on this occasion, Matt is not wearing his customary red-tinted spectacles or carrying his distinctive walking cane, which would make it harder for anyone searching for a visually impaired attorney to recognize him.
I am Daredevil
Another reason I’m convinced that Matt has been exposed is because, in the comics, it seems to happen almost every other day. At one point, Karen confided in her drug dealer who then told Wilson Fisk (Kingpin), Brian Michael Bendis allegedly leaked it to the press, and on one occasion, Spider-Man even mentioned it in a letter (clever move, Peter. Matt’s tearing up now).
What I’m trying to convey is this: Matt Murdock’s identity as Daredevil has been openly portrayed in Marvel Comics for a long time, and it seems plausible that the executives of the Marvel Cinematic Universe might want to delve into this aspect. Given that we’ve already seen adaptations of stories like Born Again, Devil’s Reign, and Guardian Devil, there aren’t many iconic Daredevil tales left unexplored.
If Matt’s true identity has been revealed, one might suspect that Wilson Fisk could be the culprit. Given that he’s aware of Matt’s secret identity and openly expresses disdain for the vigilantes in New York City, it seems plausible that he might have a hand in this.
However, it doesn’t appear typical of Fisk’s character – he usually appreciates the strength that comes from using advantage, and there’s potency in discovering a hero’s hidden identity.
It seems quite likely that Matt will be the one to reveal this information. After all, in Mark Waid’s Daredevil series, Matt himself leaked info to avoid lying under oath. If this were to happen, it would create a poignant irony given that Matt once concealed his identity while putting the White Tiger through a similar ordeal.
What are your thoughts on the matter? Are you convinced that Matt will be revealed as the masked character, or do you believe my extensive comic book knowledge might be clouding my judgment (rather than chemical blindness, it’s a question of whether my comic book expertise is causing me to miss obvious clues)?
