Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Just Redeemed a Wasted MCU Phase 4 Hero

As a huge fan, I was blown away by how Daredevil: Born Again completely reinvented Jack Duquesne, a character who felt really underused after his first appearance in Hawkeye. Seriously, this season turned him into a genuinely compelling hero! It was so cool to see them bring him back and explore his life as a vigilante, especially as he went head-to-head with Fisk and his task force. I actually found his role in the first season of Daredevil: Born Again way more interesting than anything they did with him in Hawkeye – they really dug deeper into who he is this time around.

As a big fan of the Daredevil: Born Again series, I was really impressed with how they developed Jack Duquesne in just four episodes. They gave him a much more compelling storyline, and I loved seeing his character arc – from those intense interrogation scenes with Heather Glenn to teaming up with Daredevil for an unforgettable prison break in Episode 3. It really elevated his presence in the show.

Though Swordsman began the season in jail, Tony Dalton’s powerful performance and strong screen presence dominated the dramatic courtroom scenes, especially alongside Kirsten McDuffie. Knowing the trial was unfairly stacked against him, Dalton brilliantly portrayed a calm and collected demeanor amidst the turmoil of Fisk’s sham court, subtly conveying both defiance and a natural cinematic quality.

Giving him a larger part turned a previously underused character into a much more interesting and impactful hero, and fans are now eager to see what comes next for him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Episode 3’s prison escape finally showed what Jack Duquesne is capable of, establishing him as a dangerous opponent. He expertly used a weapon he made himself during a realistic, single-shot fight against the Anti-Vigilante Task Force, proving his skill and strength.

This is a significant improvement in how Jack is portrayed compared to his appearance in Hawkeye. The earlier series limited him to quick fight scenes and focused mostly on comedic relief. While enjoyable, it didn’t allow him to fully develop into the skilled vigilante he could be.

The second season of Daredevil: Born Again shifted away from lighter moments, presenting a more realistic and powerful portrayal of Daredevil as a truly dangerous and important figure in the story.

Tony Dalton is celebrated for his nuanced portrayals of characters like the compelling Lalo Salamanca in Better Call Saul and the complex Roberto Ávila in Sr. Ávila. His larger role as Swordsman in Daredevil: Born Again allowed Dalton to showcase his acting range, moving beyond the more lighthearted, supporting roles he previously played, such as in Hawkeye.

In Season 2, Episode 4 of Daredevil: Born Again, Jack begins to move away from direct confrontation, opting for a more strategic approach as things become increasingly chaotic.

Jack made a touching comment about Daredevil becoming more than just a hero – he’s now a beacon of hope for a struggling New York City. Where Will Swordsman Appear Next In The MCU?

The fourth episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 suggests we likely won’t see Swordsman for a while, unless he unexpectedly appears in the final fight alongside Daredevil and his allies against Mayor Fisk. However, the show indicates the character still has a promising future.

Tony Dalton’s character, the Swordsman, will likely appear next in the already announced third season of Daredevil: Born Again. Since Daredevil knows how dangerous the Swordsman is as a street-level fighter, he might ask for his help on a smaller task or team up with him to face a new enemy.

I’ve been thinking about Jack Duquesne, and honestly, his wealth could be a game-changer for Matt and his friends. If they manage to take down Fisk, they’ll need serious help getting back on their feet – rebuilding everything, and just having the financial security to start over. Jack’s resources could be that lifeline, providing the funds they desperately need to not just survive, but really thrive. It’s exciting to think about the possibilities!

There’s a chance Jack might reappear if Hawkeye gets a second season. Although it’s not yet confirmed whether the show starring Jeremy Renner will continue, it would be interesting to see Jack back where he first appeared. This could give Marvel the opportunity to develop him further, either as a fun, minor character or as a more important hero in the grounded, street-level stories of the MCU.
