Daniel Day-Lewis Comes Out of Retirement for His Son’s Movie

As a cinephile who has admired the mesmerizing artistry of Daniel Day-Lewis for decades, I can hardly contain my excitement about his return to the big screen. Not just any screen, mind you, but one that will showcase the directorial debut of his prodigious son, Ronan.

Daniel Day-Lewis, who had retired from acting following his role in 2017’s Phantom Thread, is stepping back into the spotlight to star in Anemone – a film that marks the directorial debut of his son, Ronan Day-Lewis. Contrary to suspicions of nepotism, it seems that this project is as much Daniel “Dad”-Lewis’s movie as well. The father-son duo co-wrote the script for this Focus Features and Plan B film, which delves into the complex ties between fathers, sons, and brothers, and the nuances of familial bonds. Alongside Daniel Day-Lewis, Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green will also star in this intriguing production.

We’re absolutely thrilled to collaborate with the talented artist, Ronan Day-Lewis, for his debut feature film, where he will team up creatively with Daniel Day-Lewis,” stated Peter Kujawski, chairman of Focus Features, in a press release. “Their script is exceptionally well-written and we eagerly anticipate sharing their vision with the public, along with the Plan B team.” The creative crew for this project also includes cinematographer Ben Fordesman (Love Lies Bleeding), costume designer Jane Petrie (The Crown), and production designer Chris Oddy (Zone of Interest). As of now, a release date has yet to be announced. Is Father’s Day weekend too predictable?
