Okay, so Dance Dance Revolution is old school, right? Like, it came out over 20 years ago! But people still seriously play it. And this one player? He’s next level. He just smashed the world record for the longest DDR marathon ever! Can you believe he played for 144 hours straight – that’s six whole days! He didn’t just jump in either, he’d been training for years to get ready for this.
Hungarian gamer Szabolcs Csépe, known as GrassHopper, recently broke the world record for the longest continuous video game dancing. According to Guinness World Records, he danced for over 138 hours between October 23rd and 29th, 2024, moving to more than 3,000 songs and burning over 22,000 calories. He surpassed the previous record of 138 hours and 34 seconds, set in 2015 by American gamer Carrie Swidecki, also on the game Just Dance.
Csépe explained to the website that his attempt was incredibly physically challenging, largely because he spent hours moving without taking time to stretch. He also relied on a small team to provide him with food and water throughout the entire process.
Honestly, it was a real challenge juggling everything – I had to manage and keep track of all the witnesses and how they spent their time, all on my own, before, during, and after the attempt. But when it comes to rhythm and music games, staying motivated is never a problem! If you’re a fan of the genre, you know there’s nothing like getting lost in the music while you’re dancing or working out – it just pushes you forward!
Csépe had already broken several world records, including playing the puzzle game Tetris Effect for over 32 hours and racing in Gran Turismo 7 for 90 hours straight. He’s now considering what record he’ll try to beat next.
