As a die-hard cinephile, I’m absolutely thrilled that the summer anime season is here! It’s packed with exciting continuations like seasons two of “Kaiju No. 8” and “My Dress Up Darling”, as well as the second halves of series such as “Sakamoto Days”. One title I’m especially looking forward to is “Dan Da Dan“, a captivating production from Science Saru, with its second season kicking off on July 2nd. This series became an instant hit when it debuted in 2024, and the new season has already received rave reviews, earning a high rating on Rotten Tomatoes!
At this moment, Season 2 of the animated series Dan Da Dan boasts a perfect “fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes, with all reviews thus far expressing enthusiasm for this new season. Despite only one episode being available on streaming platforms, distributor GKids marked the arrival of season 2 by creating a special theatrical version of the first three episodes, along with an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the production of the show. The early critical response to the movie has been overwhelmingly positive, commending the series for its breathtaking animation from Science Saru, accurate representation of the source material, and thrilling action scenes.
Entitled “Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye“, its opening weekend in theaters surpassed its own previous box office records, earning a staggering $3 million – triple the amount garnered by the first Dan Da Dan theatrical release in 2024. The initial theatrical premiere of the first season was “Dan Da Dan: First Encounter“, and the increased revenue generated by Evil Eye suggests that the fan base has expanded since then.
‘Dan Da Dan’ Is a Popular Manga With the Potential for Plenty More Seasons
The series “Dan Da Dan” originates from a Japanese manga with the same title, penned by Yukinobu Tatsu. This work combines both writing and illustration. Since April 2021, new chapters have been published weekly on Mondays through ShonenJump+ website. Additionally, physical copies of the manga are available for purchase in North American stores as well as online platforms, showcasing its widespread popularity. The story revolves around two high school students, Momo Ayase and Ken Takakura, alongside their circle of friends and relatives, who delve into paranormal investigations and battle both supernatural beings and extraterrestrial life forms.
In the latest season of Dan Da Dan, we find a blend of science fiction and horror themes as the villain, The Evil Eye, becomes a menacing presence when it takes over Jiji, Momo’s childhood friend. Additionally, new secondary characters from the manga will be introduced, broadening the universe of Dan Da Dan and promising even more breathtaking animation and action scenes.
The second installment of “Dan Da Dan” can be found streaming on both Crunchyroll and Netflix, with fresh episodes dropping every Thursday. Similar to its first season, this anime spans across 12 episodes, running weekly until September 2025. As of now, there’s no word about a third season, but given the immense popularity of “Dan Da Dan” manga, it seems quite likely that the series will carry on adapting the manga, considering its ongoing nature and the recent release of its 200th chapter.
