Dakota Johnson Says Sandra Bullock Sent a Voice Note of Support After ‘Madame Web’ Won the Razzie Award for Worst Actress: ‘I Freaked Out’

Dakota Johnson shared on Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast that Sandra Bullock contacted her earlier this year, following Johnson’s win at the Razzie Awards for worst actress. Interestingly, Bullock too had received the same award in 2010 for her role in the romantic comedy “All About Steve.” However, just a few days after her Razzie win, Bullock went on to claim the Oscar for best actress thanks to her work in “The Blind Side.

Johnson shared that he recently received a voice message from Sandra Bullock, following his win at the Razzie Awards for Worst Actress. You may not know this, but many respected figures have won this award. Bullock graciously invited him to a monthly brunch, implying they now share a unique club, as she too had won the Razzie Award in the same year she received an Oscar.

Johnson expressed surprise and excitement upon receiving a message from her, considering her as a significant figure, almost like a famous actress. He exclaimed, ‘Wow!’ and became quite overwhelmed.

As a devoted cinephile, I can’t forget the disappointment that was “Madame Web,” my ill-fated superhero venture from 2024, which scooped up Razzie Awards for both worst picture and worst screenplay. In this Sony comic book movie, I stepped into the shoes of Cassandra Webb, a paramedic who acquires the power to foresee the future following a brush with death. Regrettably, “Madame Web” only managed to rake in $43 million at the domestic box office and scored an 11% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, I’ve since shared my thoughts with the Los Angeles Times, asserting that the film’s failure was not my doing.

Johnson stated that currently, many creative choices are being made by groups or individuals who lack a creative instinct. He finds it difficult to produce art or something enjoyable in such circumstances. Regrettably, he feels that ‘Madame Web’ may have undergone a transformation from its initial concept to something else. By this point, he was merely an observer of the changes, but such occurrences are common. Unfortunately, big-budget films often fail.

In response to Poehler, Johnson expressed that the final version of “Madame Web” bore little resemblance to her original script, stating, “That’s a wild ride to embark on as an artist because you feel like you’re pouring your actual self – body, mind, emotions – into something, only for it to be altered significantly. But there’s not much you can do about it. I mean, am I going to sulk over ‘Madame Web’? No.
