As a cinephile with a penchant for sports documentaries and a soft spot for underdog stories, I am genuinely excited about “We Were There”. Having watched Daisy Ridley narrate her way through the galaxy in Star Wars, I can only imagine the passion she’ll bring to this project.

Actress Daisy Ridley, known for her role in “Star Wars,” has been announced as the narrator for “We Were There,” an upcoming documentary series that delves into the extraordinary personal tales arising from the 2022 FIFA World Cup held in Qatar.

The announced 8-episode, 30-minute long series about the FIFA World Cup is being jointly produced by Noah Media Group and HBS for global distribution. This series will focus on significant characters from the tournament, both on and off the playing field.

Each episode delves into the narrative of the tournament, structuring itself like a compact documentary. It explores the backgrounds and journeys of the main characters leading up to Qatar, providing insights into crucial matches as seen through their perspectives. Notable figures contributing to this series include Argentina’s coach Lionel Scaloni, goalkeeper Emi Martinez who won the Golden Glove, striker Julian Alvarez, and Gonzalo Montiel, the player who scored the decisive penalty in the final. Additionally, French coach Didier Deschamps, Bruno Fernandes from Portugal and Manchester United, Uruguay’s Giorgian De Arrascaeta, Japan’s Hajime Moriyasu, Morocco’s Yassine Bonou, Brazil’s Rodrygo, Morocco’s Sofyan Amrabat, Croatia’s Dominik Livakovic who was a hero in the penalty shootout, and coach Zlatko Dalic are also featured.

Catherine Quantschnigg, who heads international sales at Noah Media Group, will be responsible for selling the series worldwide.

Following the completion of the event, it was thrilling for us to retell the story from another angle,” expressed Dan Miodownik, HBS CEO. “After the intense emotion and fervor of the competition, the tales of the Qatari populace and foreign spectators add a personal touch. We are grateful to FIFA and the Supreme Committee for allowing us to share this concluding chapter of the story, in collaboration with Noah Media Group.
