As a seasoned cinephile with a penchant for gritty action thrillers and a deep appreciation for compelling female leads, I find myself genuinely excited about Daisy Ridley’s latest venture, “Dedication.” Having grown up on Martin Campbell‘s iconic Bond films like “Casino Royale” and “GoldenEye,” it’s a thrill to witness the reunion of such a formidable partnership.
Daisy Ridley has secured another main character part, this occasion being an action-thriller titled “Dedication,” directed by Martin Campbell who also oversaw their previous project “Cleaner.” This time around, they’re working together again.
The movie penned by Dan Gordon (“Wyatt Earp,” “The Hurricane”) will be premiered at the American Film Market. Highland will handle international distribution, while CAA Media Finance will manage domestic ownership rights.
In the wake of being relieved from duty following a contentious mission in the Philippines where civilian casualties occurred but anarchist leader Omar Romatas was apprehended, Marine Corps commander Major Billie Jean Parker (Ridley) finds herself at a crossroads with her career. Seeking solace, she visits her ailing father, Clyde, a retired Marine, who requests her presence at the dedication ceremony for a school building named in his honor. However, this event takes a grim turn when Omar Romatas’ vengeful son, Bento, orchestrates an attack, taking hostages. Pushed back into combat, Billie Jean devises cunning traps and delivers precise strikes to outmaneuver the assailants. Her battlefield intuition and relentless precision alter the course of the fight as she grapples with her past and demonstrates her worth in a grueling battle that will shape her enduring legacy.
The movie is being developed by Gemstone Films Ltd., Phil Hunt (known for “Tar” and “Talk to Me”), Valentin Dimitrov (“The Hitman’s Bodyguard” under Lionsgate), and Sagiv Diamant (“We Die Young”). Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier of Highland Film Group are serving as executive producers, with Gaby Whyte Hart also involved as the casting director.
Arianne Fraser, CEO of Highland Film Group, expressed excitement about working with Martin Campbell, a director known for his ability to create large-scale action scenes, especially in the Bond series. She believes that Daisy Ridley will perfectly capture the complex characteristics of a former war hero who is compelled to engage in combat once more.
Delphine Perrier, COO of Highland, commented: “It’s wonderful to have Martin and Daisy collaborating once more for ‘Dedication’. Martin is the perfect choice to bring Dan Gordon’s intricate and thrilling script to fruition. This tale brims with captivating characters and we eagerly anticipate sharing this gripping adventure with our international partners.
Highland Film Group’s current lineup additionally features:
Ridley is represented by both CAA and the agencies Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern, as well as Narrative. On the other hand, Campbell is only represented by CAA.
