As a cinephile who’s traversed the cinematic universe from a galaxy far, far away to the grimy streets of New York City, I must say that Daisy Ridley‘s latest venture, “We Bury the Dead,” has piqued my interest significantly. The gritty survival-thriller aesthetic, coupled with the haunting premise, promises a gripping tale that’ll keep me on the edge of my seat.
Actress Daisy Ridley, known for her role in the “Star Wars” sequel series, takes on a unique role as a vigilante in director Zak Hilditch’s forthcoming horror-survival-thriller titled “We Bury the Dead.”
The upcoming movie, set to debut at Australia’s Adelaide Film Festival in November, has revealed a sneak peek of Ridley portraying a distraught woman who becomes part of a recovery team following a catastrophic military test that wiped out Tasmania’s population. In her search for her lost husband, she encounters bodies, some of which aren’t completely deceased.
Ridley’s figure appears weary as she travels to the southern part of Tasmania, where she must confront her own lingering issues due to a sense of hopelessness.
Earlier this year, filming occurred simultaneously in Albany and the Greater Southern region of Western Australia. The movie features Brenton Thwaites from “Titans” and Mark Coles Smith known for his role in “Mystery Road: Origin.”
Hilditch’s new movie, “We Bury the Dead,” is his fourth film; previously, he made “1922,” “These Final Hours,” and “Rattlesnake.”)
As a long-time movie enthusiast who has spent countless hours watching films and analyzing their production details, I am particularly excited about this upcoming film. The production team behind it is made up of talented individuals whose previous works have caught my attention and left me captivated. Kelvin Munro and Grant Sputore, of the West Australian production company The Penguin Empire, are known for their thought-provoking films like “I Am Mother” and “The Furnace.” Their unique storytelling approach resonates with me, as I appreciate movies that challenge my thoughts and emotions.
“Produced jointly by Penguin Empire and Campfire Studios, the show titled “We Bury the Dead” received significant financial backing from Screen Australia, along with Screenwest, Lotterywest, and the WA Regional Screen Fund. Additional funding was provided by Gramercy Park Media and Peachtree Media Partners. Umbrella Entertainment handles local distribution, while Neon and UTA Independent Film Group manage international sales.”
Ridley, known for her roles in “The Marsh King’s Daughter” and “Young Woman and the Sea,” as well as producing and acting in “Sometimes I Think About Dying,” is anticipated to rejoin the “Star Wars” saga with “Star Wars: New Jedi Order,” a forthcoming film that takes place following the events of “The Rise of Skywalker.”
