The upcoming teen film “Whistle,” starring Dafne Keen, has some fresh news. It’s been announced that Shudder will distribute the eagerly awaited movie directed by Corin Hardy, who is also known for “The Nun,” within the U.S.
According to recent news, the horror movie “Whistle” has been obtained by Shudder and Independent Film Company for U.S. distribution, and a broad theatrical release is scheduled. This is exciting news for fans of the horror genre, as Shudder is well-known for its focus on horror, thriller, and supernatural content. In a statement regarding the acquisition, Hardy shared, “Whistle embodies the raw emotion and outsider spirit that I loved in my favorite genre films from my childhood. This film was designed for the big screen experience, so I’m eager for audiences to join us in cinemas as they ‘Blow the Whistle’ with Independent Film Company and Shudder!
In the movie “Whistle,” penned by Owen Egerton from his own short story, we follow a band of misfits, high school students who find themselves in possession of an ancient Aztec Death Whistle unknowingly. Once they blow this cursed artifact, they learn that the chilling sound it produces calls forth their impending deaths to pursue them relentlessly. As the death toll increases, these friends embark on a desperate quest to uncover the whistle’s origins and halt the terrifying sequence of events they have inadvertently triggered. Joining Keen in this teen horror film are Sophie Nélisse (from “Yellowjackets”), Sky Yang (from “Rebel Moon”), Percy Hynes White (from “Wednesday”), and Nick Frost ().
Corin Hardy demonstrates his expertise in the horror genre, and we’re thrilled to share this terrifying concept with moviegoers nationwide. Adam Koehler, Director of Acquisitions and Productions at Shudder, RLJE Films, and Independent Film Company, remarked that Whistle offers a brutal and gory experience that will rank among the most chilling horror films in contemporary cinema. Whistle is produced by David Gross and Jesse Shapira from No Trace Camping, and Macdara Kelleher from Wild Atlantic Pictures.
What’s Next for Dafne Keen?
Dafne Keen is primarily recognized for her role as Laura Kinney/X-23 in the 2017 movie “Logan,” where she garnered extensive praise for her portrayal of the young mutant. Additionally, Keen is well-known for her lead character Lyra Belacqua on BBC One and HBO’s adaptation of Philip Pullman’s “His Dark Materials,” as well as the young Padawan Jecki Lon in a Star Wars series.
In simpler terms, the movie centers around an actor, titled “The Unplugging,” which is a story about a teenager, previously seen in “Goosebumps,” who feels sexually frustrated.
