Valorant has temporarily removed Cypher from the game due to a glitch with his surveillance cameras. This bug gave players an unfair advantage, so he’s been disabled until it’s fixed.
Riot Games frequently updates the characters, called Agents, in Valorant. They usually do this by making some Agents stronger (buffs) and others weaker (nerfs), ensuring no single Agent becomes too dominant – for example, if an Agent like Neon is too powerful, they’ll be adjusted to create a more balanced game.
Riot Games has occasionally had to take characters out of the game temporarily. This recently happened with Neon, when a glitch with her Fast Lane ability let some players see through walls. Omen was also removed from play for a similar reason in the past.
Unfortunately, Cypher is temporarily unavailable due to a problem with his cameras briefly malfunctioning.
Classic Cypher Spycam bug returns
Problems with the Sentinel agent started appearing on May 28th, when players discovered they could throw their gun at the Spycam and then fire it remotely.
This issue has happened before. In fact, a Riot Games developer, Penguin, even joked about it when they announced Cypher would be temporarily unavailable.
A Valorant game designer responded to a bug report on X (formerly Twitter), playfully calling it a ‘throwback Thursday’ moment. They confirmed the bug, affecting a character named Cypher, had been temporarily fixed. The designer added that the bug was amusing, ranking it among the top three most memorable alongside the ‘rideable Recon Dart’ glitch.

Although the issue with Neon was resolved rapidly, players couldn’t use her in Valorant for a couple of days until the 12.09 update was released.
We don’t yet know how long Cypher will be unavailable, but players are eager to have him playable again soon.
