CD Projekt Red has just launched a free update for Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation 5, taking advantage of the PS5 Pro’s capabilities and adding three new ways to experience the game’s visuals.
The PS5 Pro version of Cyberpunk 2077 now includes three graphics modes: Ray Tracing Pro, standard Ray Tracing, and a Performance mode, each offering a different balance of visual quality and speed. The game also benefits from an improved upscaling technology called PSSR. The update requires 7.877GB of space for the main game and 1.789GB for the Phantom Liberty expansion on PS5.
The complete edition of Cyberpunk 2077 is now available on Nintendo Switch 2 and macOS, in addition to existing platforms like PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. You can find my review of the Ultimate Edition for Switch 2 here.
Here’s the new trailer showcasing the Cyberpunk 2077 upgrade for PS5 Pro, along with detailed information and patch notes from CD Projekt Red.
PS5 Pro owners can now download a free update for Cyberpunk 2077 that takes full advantage of the console’s power. This update delivers improved performance, better graphics with upgraded PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), more realistic ray tracing, and other enhancements. It’s designed to make exploring the game’s futuristic world even more immersive.
The update includes three graphics settings. Players who want the smoothest gameplay can choose Performance Mode, which maximizes frame rate. For the best visuals with advanced lighting effects, Ray Tracing Pro is available. And Ray Tracing offers a good balance between visual quality and performance. You can find a complete list of what’s new in the latest patch notes.
PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members have been enjoying Cyberpunk 2077 for free since July, and now players with a PlayStation 5 Pro will get to experience the game with the latest update. Digital Foundry has already tested the update on PS5 Pro and shared their detailed analysis and first impressions.
Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Pro update patch notes
We’ve created a special version of the game for PlayStation 5 Pro that’s been optimized to run even better, with smoother performance and improved graphics.
- Adds support for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). PSSR is an AI-powered upscaling technology dedicated for PlayStation 5 Pro. The image is rendered at a lower resolution, then uses PSSR to upscale it, allowing you to maintain high performance.
- Includes optimized ray-traced object queries and improved ray-tracing cache to reduce shadow popping.
- Implements BVH8 (8-way Bounding Volume Hierarchy) support to enhance the performance and efficiency of ray-traced lighting, shadows, and reflections.
- Implements the VRS (Variable Rate Shading) algorithm for optimized shading.
- Introduces 3 Graphics Modes:
- Ray Tracing Mode enables ray-traced reflections on vehicle paint and transparent objects, with all shadows rendered using ray tracing, at a stable 60 FPS. This is the default setting and our recommended way to experience the game on PlayStation 5 Pro.
- Performance Mode ensures smooth gameplay, targeting 60 FPS on regular display, and up to 90 FPS on VRR-enabled displays.
- Ray Tracing Pro Mode adds ray-traced skylight, ray-traced emissive lighting and ray-traced ambient occlusion, running at 40 FPS on displays with high refresh rates (HFR). If your display does not support HFR, it targets 30 FPS instead.
