Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Will Feature A Second City

2077’s Cyberpunk game is set to mark its fifth anniversary later this year, yet the follow-up title remains unnamed and may not arrive for several more years. Even so, enthusiasts can look forward to returning to Night City, but creator Mike Pondsmith has subtly suggested that the upcoming sequel might feature a second city in addition to the first.

At Digital Dragons 2025 (as reported by VGC), Pondsmith mentioned that he isn’t deeply engaged with the sequel of Cyberpunk 2077. However, he has been provided with the scripts and he stays informed about some exciting updates to the game world, including a brand new city.

In a conversation, Pondsmith mentioned that they had a lengthy discussion with someone about the environment, and this person shared details regarding the new location since it turns out there’s another city they frequently visit. However, Pondsmith didn’t reveal any further information. But let me tell you, there is indeed another city they visit. The original city, Night City, remains intact.

Pondsmith commented, “When I saw it, I thought, ‘I get the vibe you’re aiming for, and it definitely fits,'” he continued. “‘It’s not reminiscent of Blade Runner; instead, it appears more like a dystopian Chicago.'” And I replied, “Indeed, I can visualize this concept coming together successfully.

While The Witcher 4 seems to be dominating CD Projekt Red’s focus, it’s worth noting that a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is being developed at their Boston studio. The aim is to make the game more authentically American than its predecessor. A recent job listing for this project indicates that the developers are striving to create the most realistic crowds in gaming history.

Meanwhile, the Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition is set to release as a launch game for the Nintendo Switch 2. You can expect it around a month following the Switch 2’s official launch on June 5th.
