Cyberpunk 2077 sequel may have multiplayer, which was dropped in the original

In the continuation of Cyberpunk 2077, known as Project Orion, there might be an addition not found in the initial version – a multiplayer gaming experience.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but feel excited about the upcoming projects from CD Projekt Group, even though they haven’t shared too many details yet. From snippets of information dropped by the developers (and the tantalizing glimpse in the first trailer for The Witcher 4) to hints found in job postings, there’s a steady stream of intriguing tidbits. Recently, it was confirmed that the sequel to Cyberpunk will feature a first-person perspective and the developer’s ambitious plans for NPCs (Non-Player Characters). This news in February really got my gaming heart racing!

As a gamer, I stumbled upon some intriguing details that seemed to have flown under the radar of mainstream media. It appears these tidbits were overlooked due to CD Projekt RED swiftly filling a vacancy within their studio, an offer that wasn’t publicly displayed on their official website for quite some time. The only trace of this was hidden away on their LinkedIn page.

This position involves a Senior Gameplay Programmer role where you’ll be tasked with designing and upholding resilient and adaptable systems. These systems should perform optimally in both single-player and multiplayer gaming environments. The job description emphasizes the importance of having extensive expertise in multiplayer game modes.

Initially, the team behind Cyberpunk 2077 intended to include a multiplayer aspect, but unfortunately, this feature didn’t appear in the game at its release. In the end, due to its abandonment, players were left exploring fan-created alternatives.

It’s worth mentioning that not every fan of Cyberpunk 2077 prefers multiplayer gaming. These players argue that incorporating multiplayer aspects could negatively impact the project, as it might divert attention and resources away from the single-player experience. Moreover, they believe that any potential multiplayer mode would either be a scaled-down version of the single-player gameplay or another reiteration of the Call of Duty formula.

As a fan, I can certainly say that I, along with many others, would love to give online gameplay a try, especially the co-op mode. However, we must remember that CD Projekt’s plans for multiplayer are currently unclear since their project, tentatively named ‘Project Orion,’ is only just beginning its pre-production phase. It’s important to note that ‘Project Orion’ isn’t due out anytime soon, so we should enjoy the upcoming release of ‘The Witcher 4’ first.
