Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Enters Pre-Production, Developer Announced

In October of 2022, CD Projekt RED unveiled “Project Orion” as their next venture, with details scarce other than it serving as a follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077. Notably, the primary team behind Cyberpunk 2077 relocated to the U.S. for this project, thereby strengthening CD Projekt RED’s presence in America.

Lately, there’s been fresh news concerning the “Project Orion.” This update was shared during their recently disclosed financial report. Simultaneously, they verified (and posted on social media) that Cyberpunk 2077 has moved 10 million units since its debut in December 2020.

Congratulations to the team for this milestone ↙️

CD Projekt RED has announced that “Project Orion,” the follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077, is now in its initial stages of development, and they made this announcement on their official Investor Relations social media platforms on May 28th, 2025. This revelation has sparked enthusiasm among fans of the Cyberpunk series who have been eagerly anticipating news or updates about “Project Orion.” However, no specific timeline has been given for when full-scale production will commence on the sequel.

A few weeks back, I was thrilled to learn that the team behind the next epic Cyberpunk game at CD Projekt RED had wrapped up the conceptual phase for the project. This means that the game previously known as Project Orion has moved forward into pre-production!

The developer has provided an update on their progress, indicating that most of their development teams are actively involved in ongoing projects. A significant number of these teams, including 11 new hires, are now focused on the forthcoming Witcher sequel, The Witcher 4, bringing the team size to 422 as of April 2025. Similarly, the Cyberpunk sequel team has grown by 12 members, expanding from 84 to 96, as it enters its pre-production phase.
