Cyberpunk 2077 and many other games have received AMD FSR 4 support thanks to modders

So far, AMD’s upscaling solutions have been noticeably less effective compared to Nvidia’s offerings. However, the latest release of FSR4 has significantly reduced this difference with DLSS technology. The challenge is that most older games probably won’t get updates incorporating FSR 4. But, luckily, modders have stepped in to help bridge this gap.

  1. The result is the OptiScaler project, a tool that allows for replacing upscaling technologies in games.
  2. In practice, this means that if a game supports at least DLSS 2, FSR 2, or XeSS, we can add newer versions of these technologies to it.
  3. This replacement isn’t limited to just one technology. For example, if a game supports DLSS 2, nothing stops you from using OptiScaler to add support for FSR4.
  4. Of course, it’s still an unofficial tool, so it doesn’t always work perfectly. That’s why the creators prepared a list where users can add information about how different games work with OptiScaler. If you run into problems, you can also find tips there on how to resolve them.

In the video displayed, you can observe the outcome of utilizing this tool, where Cyberpunk 2077 is demonstrated running with FSR 4 integrated through the app, against FSR 3, which the Polish blockbuster, Cyberpunk 2077, natively supports.

Although FSR4 doesn’t surpass the most recent DLSS in terms of quality and efficiency just yet, the difference between these technologies has significantly narrowed. This is fantastic news for gamers, as they can now incorporate AMD’s latest technology into games even if the developers haven’t released necessary updates, bridging the gap in image quality and performance.
