In an exciting turn of events, film enthusiasts who appreciate unusual and eccentric movies will be thrilled to know that Cultpix has secured exclusive rights to stream the extensive collection of exploitation and genre films from Something Weird.
On Saturday at the Cannes Film Market, a partnership was unveiled which will introduce the specialized Something Weird Channel (SWC) on Cultpix’s platform starting June 1st. This collaboration follows the closure of download-to-own services and in-house DVD-R production by Something Weird LLC, previously known as Something Weird Video, last October.
Titles associated with this agreement are diverse and intriguing, ranging from “Something Unusual,” “All Men Are Primates,” “Forbidden Desires,” “Party Crashers: The Monsters,” “Girl Power Group,” “Satan in Stilettos,” “Olga’s Scandalous Home,” “Naked on the Lunar Surface,” “The Deadly Instrument,” “Teaserama,” “Undertaker and His Companions,” “She is Unusual” and “Two Thousand Madmen.
Lisa Petrucci, now leading Something Weird since the demise of its founder Mike Vraney, views Cultpix as an excellent online streaming platform for the conservation and dissemination of cult movies.
Petrucci expressed enthusiasm about sharing our collection with them, as we present these distinctive movies to a fresh audience, all while maintaining our commitment to our loyal followers.
The organization dedicated to safeguarding cult films intends to continue its alliances with distributors of physical media such as AGFA, Severin Films, Kino Lorber, Distribpix Inc., and Vinegar Syndrome, for specific Blu-ray editions.
Rickard Gramfors, the co-founder and CEO of Cultpix, referred to the broadened alliance as a logical progression in their longstanding partnership with Something Weird. Since our inception four years ago, Something Weird has played a crucial role as one of our primary content partners.
Through this broadened collaboration, we can now provide a wider variety of cult and genre movies to our worldwide members,” Gramfors explained.
The extensive collection known as the “Something Weird Archive,” accumulated over many years by Vraney and Petrucci, is set to have its own area on the Cultpix platform. This space will maintain the unique style and identity of the archive. The films will be released progressively across different categories, with special collections handpicked for emphasis at regular intervals.
In contrast to the expanded content, Cultpix has recently lowered the price for its worldwide streaming video service to just $5.99 a month or $49 a year. With partnerships exceeding 50 content providers, they have built an extensive library of over 1,800 titles, including films from 11 film institutes and national archives.
The streamer has broadened its technological reach, recently debuting apps on the Amazon FireTV and Android TV systems to enhance user convenience. This year at Cannes, Cultpix is making a notable impact, simultaneously announcing the release of new Blu-Ray discs in collaboration with their sister company Klubb Super 8.
