Crystal Lake, Peacock's Friday The 13th Series, Finds New Showrunner

As a seasoned gamer and connoisseur of all things horror, I must say that the revival of the Friday the 13th prequel series has me both excited and skeptical. Excited because Crystal Lake is finally getting a fresh start under a new showrunner, and skeptical due to the behind-the-scenes turmoil it’s experienced so far.

Despite some initial chaos behind-the-scenes of Peacock’s Friday the 13th prequel series, it appears that the production is moving forward once more with a new showrunner at the helm. According to Deadline, Brad Caleb Kane has stepped up to replace Bryan Fuller in this role and will be much more than just a showrunner – he will also create, write, and produce Crystal Lake as its executive producer.

Initially unveiled in October 2022, the specifics about Crystal Lake are being closely guarded. This is A24’s first significant project based on an IP (Intellectual Property), as they aim to broaden their reach towards a more commercial and diverse audience. The original 1980 horror classic’s writer, Victor Miller, will also serve as executive producer, along with Kane and others.

As a kid growing up during the golden era of slasher movies, there’s nothing that has left a deeper imprint on my childhood than Friday The 13th. This genre-defining series is simply unmatched, and I can hardly contain my excitement to add my own chapter to this legendary franchise, working alongside brave partners like Peacock and A24.

Lately, Kane has taken on the role of co-head writer and executive producer for a chilling horror prequel series titled “It: Welcome to Derry”. This thrilling new series is set to debut on HBO next year, bringing fresh content inspired by the movies directed by Andy Muschietti and the original novel penned by Stephen King.

The television series based on Crystal Lake isn’t the initial one, as Friday the 13th: The Series, which ran for three seasons from 1987 to 1990 and had no connection to the films, came first. The upcoming series will mark the first new project linked to the lore since the 2009 reboot of Friday the 13th. So far, there have been twelve Friday the 13th movies, with the original significantly influencing the slasher genre in the 80s horror scene.
