Crusader Kings 3’s Wandering Nobles Release Divided Players. Fans Complain About „Cut Content” from Roads to Power

As a seasoned veteran of the Crusader Kings universe, I must say that the latest DLC, Wandering Nobles, has left me with mixed feelings. On one hand, the addition of breweries and their associated cultural impact is undeniably intriguing, and it’s always enjoyable to see new elements added to my virtual kingdoms. However, on the other hand, I can’t help but feel a sense of déjà vu when it comes to the content being split between expansions.

Crusader Kings 3 got another DLC titled “The Wandering Nobles expansion”. This was made available for PC users yesterday, introducing a fresh lifestyle – the first since the launch of the third installment of Paradox’s “Crusade” series in 2020. Incidentally, an update has also been rolled out recently.

As a dedicated Crusader Kings 3 gamer, I must admit that the new update, Version 1.14.0, isn’t as grand as the Roads to Power expansion. But let me tell you, the option to construct a brewery, complete with its unique cultural influence and courtly status, has certainly put a smile on many players’ faces!

Additionally, there are some notable adjustments, particularly in the dynamics of gameplay. For instance, the approach used to estimate the risk, or put simply, the likelihood of inbreeding within a dynasty, has been revised to be based on the level of relatedness, instead of the “number of ancestors skipped.

To be completely honest, it seems that my enthusiasm for Wandering Nobles isn’t as widespread as I had hoped. The number of daily active players has stayed relatively steady since the DLC release, according to SteamDB, and the expansion itself has garnered a mix of opinions on Steam. As of now, the game has received 104 reviews, with about 66% being positive ones.

It seems that instead of the price, it’s the perceived removal of content from the original game, “Roads to Power,” and its subsequent release as a separate DLC titled “Wandering Nobles,” which is causing frustration among some players. The new features in “Wandering Nobles” are seen as insignificant by those who don’t have the latest major expansion.
