Critical Role video game details revealed
According to Variety, the Critical Role video game is currently being developed by a freshly established independent studio called AdHoc Studio.
AdHoc Studio was established by experienced game developers who previously worked at Telltale Games, Ubisoft, and other renowned companies. Their debut game, Dispatch, is scheduled for release later in the year and boasts an impressive voice cast, including Aaron Paul, Jeffrey Wright, MoistCr1TiKaL, as well as several members from Critical Role such as Matthew Mercer, Laura Bailey, and Travis Willingham.
Following the advancements on Dispatch, it was Willingham who reached out to AdHoc Studio regarding the concept of a Critical Role game similar in style; an interactive, decision-based storyline set within the realm of Exandria.
Actually, the Critical Role group is not only enthusiastic supporters of Dispatch, but they’re also collaborating on an animated series and a tabletop game as well.
For a while now, we’ve been acquainted with the Critical Role group, shared Michael Choung, CEO of AdHoc. When we eventually began brainstorming concepts, everything simply fell into place. It felt perfectly logical, so we’re excited to join forces and stir up some mischief together.
When asked about the main aspect of the game, Willingham playfully hinted that players can expect a distinctive element within the realm of Exandria. It’s likely to involve a completely fresh narrative.
Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed, he hinted that the game could be set during the gaps between Critical Role’s primary storylines, enriching the universe with additional details.
Since the game has only recently been unveiled, it’s currently in its infancy when it comes to production. Therefore, players shouldn’t anticipate playing it anytime soon, likely not for several years. The team is mindful of the challenges that come with AAA development and aims to steer clear of projects that might span over 5 years.
