The animated film titled “The Violinist,” created by Ervin Han and Raul Garcia, which is set in colonial Singapore during the tumultuous period of World War 2, has been acquired by France TV Distribution prior to the Cannes market.
Composed by Ricky Ho from Singapore, “The Violinist” features a star-studded cast headed by Kheng Hua Tan (known for “The Tiger’s Apprentice” and “Crazy Rich Asians”), Kazuya Tanabe (“Tokyo Vice”), Adrian Pang, Ayden Sng, and Fang Rong.
In this new phrasing, the sentence is more conversational and easier to understand, while still conveying the same information about the cast of “The Violinist.
Jordan K. See and Han co-wrote the screenplay. France TV Distribution is managing global distribution rights for this project, excluding Singapore, Malaysia, and Spain. They’ll debut it to potential buyers during Cannes.
1930s colonial Singapore serves as our setting, where we meet two ambitious youths: Fei and Kai, a talented orphan boy with dreams of becoming an internationally recognized violinist. However, the tranquility is shattered when war erupts in Southeast Asia in 1941. Kai decides to join the resistance, only to vanish following the war’s end. Determined not to give up hope, Fei immerses herself relentlessly in her pursuit of becoming a soloist and embarks on a silent, resolute journey across the region, searching for her lost friend. Her music serves as a beacon of hope amidst sorrow and a container for her grief.

Producciones of Spain, and Altri Occhi of Italy. This production is backed by significant support from key partners such as Bombillo Amarillo, Mystic House Animation, Throne Inc., Select Entertainment, and Little Green White for both production and financing purposes.
Executives Alexandre René and JuliaSchulte from France TV Distribution have characterized “The Violinist” as an introspective journey delving into themes of resilience, recollection, and the lasting influence of interpersonal bonds. In a communique, they also noted that the film strikes a chord with modern viewers, reflecting on the poignant truth that our dearly held aspirations can be shattered when conflict arrives at our doorstep.
