The last few years have been great for fans of relaxing games, with lots of wonderful farming and cozy-themed titles released since 2023. Starsand Island is a standout because it’s incredibly calming and offers a huge amount of different activities.
When I’m looking for a cozy game, what I really want is that warm, comforting feeling – you know, the thing that just makes you feel good. I’ve sunk a lot of hours into Starsand Island, and honestly, it still gives me that feeling. Even after dozens of hours playing, it feels just as welcoming as it did when I first started and met Solara.
Starsand Island has a remarkably welcoming and heartfelt atmosphere, something many games strive for but don’t quite achieve. Luckily, there are other games that offer similar feelings, and this list showcases a variety of options to suit different tastes.
10. Stardew Valley
A Timeless Trendsetter

Stardew Valley is often seen as the best example of relaxing “cozy” games, and it really set the standard for many games like it. You move to Pelican Town and take over your grandfather’s old farm, and then you get to decide how you want to run it!
Stardew Valley is a heartwarming game with a lovely feel, but what really makes it special is how much freedom it gives you. You can play it as a peaceful, calming experience, or focus on maximizing profits and building a hugely successful farm. This flexibility, combined with consistent updates and ongoing support from the developers, is why Stardew Valley remains so beloved even a decade after it first came out.
9. Wanderstop
Make Tea and Friends
Wanderstop is a heartwarming game that truly focuses on its characters. It’s a cozy experience where you brew tea and explore themes of healing. You play as Alta, a former soldier who leaves her past behind to work at a tea house. As you progress, you’ll learn about Alta’s struggles with PTSD, which is thoughtfully woven into the story.
Making tea in this game isn’t just about brewing; it involves growing and carefully choosing ingredients to create drinks tailored to each customer. This process is deeply meaningful for the character Alta, and I found it to be calming and thoughtful. I also appreciated how the game wasn’t afraid to tackle difficult themes. It’s a gentle, heartwarming experience that leaves a lasting impression.
8. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Design and Customize Your Island

youtube.com/@NintendoAmerica
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a beloved cozy game, and it’s easy to see why. You get a whole island to design however you like, and players have created some incredibly impressive and heartwarming designs.
Animal Crossing is unique because it’s meant to be played with a single, ongoing save file. The game only allows one save per Switch console and runs on real-time, meaning it’s best enjoyed in short daily sessions rather than long marathon playtimes. While this might seem limiting, it actually fits the game’s style and encourages you to build and progress slowly over time. I especially appreciate it on days when I need a quick, relaxing break but don’t have hours to dedicate to gaming.
7. My Time at Sandrock
A Farming Sim Set in a Desert
My Time at Sandrock takes place 300 years after a major disaster, and it offers the relaxing gameplay you’d expect from a cozy game, but with some unique features. Because the game is set in a desert, you have to carefully manage your resources – water is precious, and there are no trees to chop down. This forces you to find creative solutions when it comes to farming and construction.
I loved how this game made me rethink my farming and crafting strategies. Many cozy games have limited resources, but this felt intentional – it wasn’t just about scarcity. I had to be mindful of things like sandstorms and consistently maintain my equipment to keep it from breaking down.
6. Disney Dreamlight Valley
Disney’s Take on a Cozy Game
I grew up loving Disney movies, especially those from the 1990s Disney Renaissance. So, getting to create a cozy game featuring those characters feels like a dream come true, particularly since I can’t easily visit Disney parks myself. Disney Dreamlight Valley transports you to a magical world filled with beloved Disney characters, and you’re tasked with saving the Valley and its inhabitants.
Disney Dreamlight Valley really taps into fond memories, and it does so incredibly well. You can wander and farm in gorgeous Disney princess dresses, though you can also choose more everyday outfits. It’s a game that lets you live out a fairytale and spend time with beloved Disney characters.
5. Hello Kitty Island Adventure
Restore an Amusement Park with Sanrio
Hello Kitty is incredibly popular in Japan, and it’s easy to see why – she’s undeniably adorable! Hello Kitty Island Adventure really leans into that cuteness, making it one of the most charming games I’ve played recently. I especially enjoyed being able to design my own Sanrio character with the game’s customization features.
This game has a ton of content! Just the main story will keep you busy for dozens of hours, and that’s not even counting time spent collecting materials, building up your base, and simply exploring the world. I especially loved the variety of environments, like snorkelling in the vibrant Rainbow Reef and the eerie Spooky Swamp.
The game focuses heavily on befriending Sanrio characters, and you’ll need to build up your friendships to unlock new quests. But for fans of Sanrio and those who enjoyed the relationship-building aspects of Starsand Island, this will feel natural and rewarding.
4. Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma
An RPG with Cozy Game Mechanics
You might be surprised to see an action RPG on this list, but Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma actually shares a lot with cozy games. While it has more fighting than most games in this genre, the combat is simple to learn and offers more depth than just basic mining battles. It’s not just about fighting; it’s about a richer experience.
I spent most of my time in Guardians of Azuma gathering materials and growing crops. What makes these tasks fun is that they help rebuild villages. The game is visually stunning, and the changing seasons—which affect what you can grow—add to the experience. However, the best part of Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is the story. It’s a large and captivating RPG narrative, and that’s why it’s become one of my favorite cozy games to play.
3. Fields of Mistria
Bringing Back the Magic of Cozy Games
Fields of Mistria is a charming pixel-art farming game that stands out thanks to its beautiful art and memorable characters. I’ve lost over 400 hours to it, enjoying the satisfying gameplay, decorating my farm, and even finding romance – with everyone, including a dragon! The art style is incredibly cute, and it cleverly captures the feel of 1990s shoujo anime, making it both nostalgic and fresh. The game also features a well-balanced magic system that provides helpful assistance without making things too easy.

What I love most about Fields of Mistria is how the characters interact – it really brings the world to life. The weekly events at the inn are always fun, and the festivals they’ve added are fantastic. The Shooting Star festival at the end of summer is especially beautiful.
2. Palia
A Cozy MMO
Palia is unique on this list as a massively multiplayer online game, but that actually enhances the cozy experience. Being an MMO means it includes convenient features like quick travel, map markers for characters, and special events. Plus, the online aspect makes the world feel more alive and ever-changing.
Unlike some other relaxing games that only hint at fantasy, Palia fully embraces it, which I, as a fantasy fan, really appreciated. This gives the game a unique feel. Being able to build a home and community with friends is a big part of the fun, and the fact that Palia is free to play makes it easy for groups of friends to jump in and enjoy it together.
1. Coral Island
A 3D Stardew Valley
Since its release, Coral Island has quickly become a popular cozy game, and it’s easy to see why. The game is visually stunning with a bright, cheerful style, and offers a lot of ways to personalize your farm and home. What I especially love is how the character portraits look – the designs are clean, diverse, and really pleasing to the eye.
Okay, so if you’re into romance in your games, Coral Island seriously delivers – there are 28 people you can get to know! It’s not just a dating game, but honestly, the romance aspects are as good, if not better, than a lot of other cozy games I’ve played. I’ve been totally hooked since I started playing, and if you loved the vibe of Starsand Island, you absolutely need to check this one out.
