Toshiaki Uesugi, a graphic designer and art director known for his work on popular anime such as Steamboy, has created a new logo to commemorate Sunrise anime studio’s 50th anniversary.
To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Sunrise is commemorating the 1977 premiere of Invincible Super Man Zambot 3, the first original series it ever produced. A new logo, created by Uesugi and featuring the classic Sunrise style with the number 50, has been revealed. In addition, a teaser image by graphic designer Kosuke Kawamura and a special catchphrase – “Jump, Fly, Soar! Creating for Another 50 Years” – penned by Ryosuke Takahashi (director of Armored Trooper Votoms) have also been released.
This launch kicks off a three-year celebration for the studio, lasting from 2026 to 2028. Sunrise is now Bandai Namco Filmworks’ main animation production team, following changes made to the company structure in April 2022.

I was excited to hear that Sunrise is launching a brand new installment in the Armored Trooper Votoms series, called Armored Trooper Votoms: The Grey Witch. It’s going to be directed by Mamoru Oshii, who’s famous for Ghost in the Shell, and they’re partnering with Production I.G. to make it happen. Sunrise also hinted that this is just the beginning – they have more anniversary projects planned for the future!
Founded in 1972 by people who used to work at Mushi Production, the studio went through several names – Soeisha, Sunrise Studio, and Nippon Sunrise – before officially becoming Sunrise Inc. in 1987. It quickly became well-known, largely thanks to Yoshiyuki Tomino’s Mobile Suit Gundam in 1979. In April 2022, the studio was reorganized. Even though the parent company changed its name, the “Sunrise” name is still used to maintain the studio’s recognizable identity.
This anniversary release comes after a successful time for the brand, especially with the recent premiere of Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club The Movie: Final Chapter Part 2. The movie, which came out on November 7, 2025, builds on the popularity of this major franchise from Sunrise.
