Courteney Cox Says ‘I’m Not Officially Signed on’ for ‘Scream 7’ Yet and Hopes Dewey Can Appear: ‘They Have to Figure It Out’

As a diehard fan of the “Scream” franchise, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia reading about Courteney Cox‘s hopes for David Arquette’s character Dewey to make a comeback in “Scream 7”. The idea that one of my favorite characters might be missing from the next installment is like a knife to the heart, much like the infamous Ghostface himself.

David Arquette’s iconic “Screum” character, Dewey, was seemingly written out in the fifth series, but Courteney Cox is optimistic about finding a way to bring him back for “Scream 7.

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I expressed my sentiments during a recent encounter: “I get why they made that choice, but boy, Dewey’s absence sure is noticeable! The ‘Scream’ fanbase is deeply attached to this character. They need to find a way to address it.

It appears that Courtney Cox hasn’t officially agreed to be part of “Scream 7” as of now. Initially, I reported in March that discussions had started about her reprising the role of Gale Weathers for the seventh movie in the series, following the news that Neve Campbell would return after missing out on “Scream 6” due to a salary disagreement.

“I’m not officially signed on,” Cox said. “I’m not, but there will be a ‘Scream 7.’”

As a fervent movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the prospect of Kevin Williamson directing a “Scream” film for the first time. It’s exciting to know that the man who penned the script for the original “Scream” in 1996 is now taking the helm for this latest installment, following Christopher Landon’s departure in late December.

“You can’t get better than that choice,” Cox said of Williamson. “It’s going to be fun.”

Cox stated that she hasn’t set a specific deadline for reaching a conclusion, as things are constantly being revised and she remains informed about the situation.

Previously, Campbell mentioned to IndieWire that the filming will start in Atlanta during December, following a delay of a couple of months due to scheduling conflicts between herself and Williamson.

Since Campbell announced her return for “Scream 7” in March, there have been no further casting announcements. The actresses who starred in the initial reboot of “Scream,” Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, will not be appearing in the seventh movie. Barrera was let go from “Scream 7” last year due to her social media posts regarding Israel, while Ortega is no longer available because she’s busy with her Netflix series, “Wednesday.
