Costco CEO promises he’ll never raise price of $1.50 hot dog after joining taste test trend

Costco’s CEO, Ron Vachris, recently participated in a popular trend among company leaders – trying out their signature food items. He also made a commitment regarding the famous $1.50 hot dog sold at Costco stores.

No matter where you are – the US, Canada, or the UK – you can always get a Costco hot dog and bottomless refills for just $1.50.

Even though Costco’s food court changed from serving Pepsi to Coke last year, prices have stayed the same. This makes it a popular spot for shoppers looking for a filling meal beyond the free samples available in the store.

Following a challenge from the McDonald’s CEO to compare burgers with competitors like Wendy’s, A&W, and Burger King, Costco’s Vachris decided to join in. Since Costco doesn’t sell burgers, he chose to compare their hot dog instead.

Costco CEO says hot dog is staying at $1.50 to keep its “amazing value”

In a video shared on Costco’s social media, Vachris goes to the food court and buys a hot dog and a drink.

He seemed to enjoy the hot dog, which reassured people that the price wouldn’t increase.

He promised the price of hot dogs wouldn’t go up as long as he’s in charge, ensuring customers can continue to buy them for the same price even with rising costs.

In 2024, Costco’s then-CFO, Richard Galanti, suggested the price of the company’s famous hot dog would likely remain stable for the foreseeable future. Current CEO Ron Vachris continues to maintain that position.

Vachris went on to describe the hot dog the best way he could, simply using the word “amazing.”

He was really impressed with the quality and price, saying it was worth every penny of the $1.50 he paid. He enjoyed it so much he planned to buy another one at the next store.

Costco’s famous hot dog has become a bit of a legend, even inspiring some viral stories. One man famously ate nothing but Costco hot dogs for an entire week and surprisingly lost weight!

A Costco fan spent months negotiating with a store to buy a $1.50 hot dog sign – a highly sought-after collectible – after the store changed its soda supplier from Pepsi to Coke. He finally succeeded and now proudly shows it off in his garage.
