Coop Multiplayer and Crossplay in Towers of Aghasba (ToA) Explained

As a dedicated gamer who’s journeyed through Hyrule countless times and even built my own villages in Animal Crossing, I must say I’m quite intrigued by Towers of Aghasba. The blend of Zelda-inspired adventure with survival craft elements sounds like a dream come true for me.

In 1986, The Legend of Zelda series began, leaving an indelible mark on game development over the years. Its influence is clear in today’s games, having played a significant role in shaping their visual aesthetics and genres. One such example that draws inspiration from these iconic Nintendo titles is Towers of Aghasba, combining Zelda elements with the survival craft genre. This game, focused on rebuilding a world, seems perfect for playing with friends or family members. Does it include cooperative multiplayer? What are the developers at Dreamlit studio’s plans regarding crossplay in this title? Let’s delve into their thoughts about the social aspect of Towers of Aghasba.

Coop, multiplayer and crossplay features in Towers of Aghasba (ToA) explained

In the intriguing realm of Towers of Aghasba, it’s widely known that its backstory is meticulously crafted, waiting to be discovered through exploration. The creators aim to make this game more story-driven than Valheim, as shared on their official Discord server. Consequently, they find it difficult to establish a harmonious and seamless cooperative multiplayer experience. This challenge extends to crossplay as well, which is another layer of complexity in the development process.

When Early Access begins on Steam and PS5, the game will offer a single-player experience similar to Animal Crossing, complete with cooperative multiplayer. This allows you to explore other players’ worlds, where you can invite up to 3 friends to join (making a total of 4 players). However, the main storyline and quest progression can only be accessed through the single-player mode.

The issue occurs when you and your friends utilize various platforms. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to interact with each other within Towers of Aghasba for a while, as the necessary feature is currently under development and is expected to be released by around Q2 2025 according to the production schedule.

As a devoted fan, I eagerly anticipate the creators’ ability to seamlessly blend the captivating universe and gameplay mechanics of Breath of the Wild with the joy and creativity that comes from personalizing environments, much like in survival games. Here’s to hoping for an immersive experience where Zelda’s world feels truly my own!
