Concord Now Being Removed From PSN Accounts

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of game launches that didn’t quite hit the mark – but Concord takes the cake (or rather, the digital file) for being one of the quickest failures I’ve ever witnessed. It’s disheartening to see a game vanish from your console library like it never existed, leaving nothing but a hollow shell of its once-promising potential.

Due to the unsuccessful launch of their multiplayer shooter game, Concord, Sony has taken it off the market, closed down its servers, and is providing refunds to players on both PS5 and PC platforms. Now, all Concord content will be eliminated from consoles where it was previously installed.

Users who purchased the digital edition of Concord from the PlayStation Store are now receiving notifications that Sony has taken down the game from their console. A message pops up saying, “Thank you for being a loyal PlayStation customer! The live services for Concord were discontinued on [September 9, 2024]. As a result, the game is no longer playable and we have removed it from your account.

According to TheGamer, it’s possible for those who own a physical copy of Concord to launch the game up to the main menu, but they can’t advance any farther. In contrast, it appears that PlayStation is deleting the entire game from digital copies outright.

When Sony disclosed that Concord was closing, it made clear that this was indeed going to occur. Sony informed its fanbase that following the processing of their refunds, they would no longer be able to play the game.

As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but notice the ongoing debate about Sony’s ability to remove content from my console. It’s become increasingly clear that when we buy digital content, we’re not really purchasing it outright, but instead, we’re granted a license to use it. This isn’t breaking news, but the Concord situation is serving as a stark reminder of this reality. We’re at the mercy of these massive, global corporations like Sony, and it’s a fact that many gamers are starting to grapple with once again.

In August, Concord officially debuted but struggled to gain traction with a player base, reaching no more than 700 simultaneous users on PC. Unfortunately, we don’t have data regarding PS5 players, but it’s clear that the game’s situation was grim enough for Sony to take drastic action: they halted sales, shut down the servers, and provided refunds to customers within just a fortnight of its release.

Firewalk Studios’ first release, titled Concord, was produced by Sony-owned studios. Game director Ryan Ellis mentioned that the initial launch didn’t meet their intended impact. Now, they are exploring various strategies to connect more effectively with players. There’s speculation that Concord might become a free-to-play game or be included in the PlayStation Plus library. However, one analyst predicts that the game may face difficulties regardless of its future plans.

Shortly following the setback with Concord, Sony experienced greater triumph with their platformer Astro Bot. This game has been receiving exceptional accolades, with a score of 9/10 even from us at TopMob.
