ConcernedApe Gives Update On Stardew Valley 1.6 Console Port, Haunted Chocolatier

Stardew Valley players on console and mobile will have to wait a little longer for update 1.6, though the port is still in the works, developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone has confirmed. The wait for the developer’s next title Haunted Chocolatier is going to take a little longer, however, with work on that project not due to resume until Stardew 1.6 is finalized.

The solo developer behind Stardew Valley posted the update about Stardew 1.6 to X today, acknowledging that fans may be frustrated with the long wait between the update’s PC release and its port to consoles and mobile devices. “I acknowledge that [the ports] are taking a long time,” he posted. “There are reasons for this, but the bottom line is that they are not out yet, we are still working on them, and they have been our primary focus since 1.6 came out for PC.”

Console and mobile ports are still in progress. I acknowledge that they are taking a long time. There are reasons for this, but the bottom line is that they are not out yet, we are still working on them, and they have been our primary focus since 1.6 came out for PC. It would be…

In a reply, Barone also explained why he decided to release and refine the new content on PC first. “If there are bugs (which there always will be), they can be fixed really quickly [on PC] and patches put out, often within hours of discovering the bug,” he explained. “On console, it takes much longer to get a patch into the hands of the players. So it’s ideal to have all major issues resolved before submitting to consoles.”

He mentioned further that the completion of the port was taking significantly more time than he had first expected, owing to complications encountered during the transfer process. Originally, he had hoped for a gap of at most one month between the two events, but unfortunately, this isn’t the case. Nonetheless, he expressed his regret about the situation.

Initially, update 1.6 was planned as a minor release, but when it eventually launched for PC this year, it turned out to be jam-packed with a tremendous amount of fresh content. This included new festivals, crafting recipes, and much more. In fact, this significant update led Stardew Valley to break its record for the highest number of concurrent players on Steam at the same time.

While fresh content for Stardew Valley might excite its players, enthusiasts eagerly anticipating Eric Barone’s next project, Haunted Chocolatier, may find themselves less enthused. Earlier this year, the developer clarified that he won’t begin work on the upcoming project until he has completed Stardew Valley 1.6 properly. In his recent update, Barone reinforced this by stating “I have not worked on Haunted Chocolatier for a while because I am focused on wrapping up Stardew Valley 1.6 first.”
