Concentration Camp Drama ‘Each of Us,’ Starring Diane Kruger, Boarded by Beta Cinema

Beta Cinema has acquired the distribution rights globally for the concentration camp drama “Each of Us,” featuring Diane Kruger, who is known for her roles in films such as “In the Fade” (which earned her a Best Actress award at Cannes), “Inglourious Basterds,” and “Amrum,” which is set to debut this week at Cannes.

Prominent actors joining the cast are Carla Juri (known for “Blade Runner,” “When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit,” and “Wetlands”), Aida Folch (“The Artist and the Model,” “The Island,” and “Smoking Room”), and Ninel Geiger (“Music” and “Sound of Falling”).

The movie narrates a tale of endurance, defiance, and sisterhood within the unique women’s concentration camp at Ravensbrück, which was the sole one of its kind, as World War II was drawing to a close.

Four European filmmakers, all women – Anne Zohra Berrached, Neus Ballús, Stina Werenfels, and Anna Jadowska – are responsible for the direction of ‘Each of Us’.

The movie, based on real-life events, is penned by screenwriters Eva Pauné and Mirjam Ziegler. It unfolds the interconnected narratives of four women hailing from distinct nations, each striving to maintain their humanity in the harsh environment of a camp. Their lives converge around a young girl who presents both hardship and hope for them.

The film, “Each of Us,” is skillfully captured by Jolanta Dylewska, a preferred cinematographer of Agnieszka Holland (noted for her work on “In Darkness,” “Spoor,” and “Ayka”), and deftly edited by Teresa Font, who has previously collaborated with Pedro Almodovar (“The Room Next Door” and “Parallel Mothers”).

In order to create an accurate portrayal of our four main characters’ histories, lives, and personalities, the film ‘Each of Us’ is shot in a distinctive manner. Each director concentrated on a specific protagonist, providing her with dedicated focus from scriptwriting to set design. Previews of the footage suggest that this approach results in a profound and moving experience, characterized by deep emotion, strong bonds with the characters, and their individual stories, as themes such as unity, the characters’ inner strength, and a sense of optimism rise above the harsh realities shown on screen.

The movie was jointly created by Alhena Production (from Spain), Bon Voyage Films (based in Germany), Turnus Film (hailing from Switzerland), and Blick Productions International (originally from Poland). It also received assistance from Ramen Studio and EFD Group during production.

The project received backing from Media Creative Europe, as well as additional support in Spain from ICAA, ICEC, TVE, and TVC; in Germany, it was supported by ARTE, SR, SWR, RBB, BR, MDM, MOIN, and MBB; in Switzerland, it benefited from BAK, Zurich Filmfund, and RGB Stiftung; and in Poland, it was aided by PISF and WFDIF.

The film is in production and being shot in Poland, Germany and Spain.

Beta Cinema’s lineup at Cannes features a variety of films, including Fatih Akin’s new movie “Amrum,” which is screening in the official selection. Additionally, they have several upcoming English-language projects such as the road trip film “500 Miles” starring Bill Nighy, and market premieres for comedies like “U.S. Palmese” by directors Antonio and Marco Manetti (from Italy), and “The Remnants of You” by Gala Gracia (debuting in Spain).
