Prior to the scheduled launch of the game on 8th April 2025, the developer has shared their official social media platforms tailored for mobile gamers, particularly Steam Deck users. Interestingly, this update from Compulsion Games was disclosed on April Fool’s Day, a day notorious for video game industry humor and pranks.
The third video game developed by Compulsion Games, titled “South of Midnight,” is an upcoming action-adventure title. This game tells a story about a woman who uncovers her hidden ability to weave in ancient ways, using it to traverse a world steeped in American Deep South folklore and battle its enigmatic creatures. On the same day that the Premium Edition of the game is released, reviews will be made public, and Compulsion Games has officially confirmed that “South by Midnight” is Steam Deck compatible.
Hey there, gaming buddies! Even though spring has sprung and April’s blooming, I’ve got some fantastic news that keeps the excitement going – South of Midnight has been given the thumbs-up by the mighty Steam Deck! That’s right; it’s officially verified! 🌿 🚀

In a post shared on the game’s Steam listing, it was explained what Steam Deck owners can expect at launch, as per the developer, including user-friendly functionality using the default controller setup, visible Steam Deck controller icons within the game, and an easy-to-read in-game interface. Furthermore, during playtesting of South of Midnight on the Steam Deck, the developers confirmed that its default graphic settings will run smoothly on the handheld device.
Users have been informed that when playing games on the Steam Deck, it won’t automatically use external controllers like Bluetooth or USB ones; instead, they may need to manually activate these controllers via the Quick Access menu. Moreover, the game’s resolution has been tested prior to launch, and it’s been found that the game performs consistently at more than 30 frames per second on the Steam Deck in medium quality settings and the device’s default resolution (800p).
The developer recommends that owners of Steam Deck adjust their settings to achieve a smoother gaming experience. To do this, they should open the Performance Settings from the Quick Access menu and find the Frame Limit option. Here, players can slide the bar to set the frame limit at 30 FPS for a more stable interactive gameplay, but this is an optional choice for those who value a quicker response time during combat or when the Steam Deck is connected to a power source, as it minimizes latency.
