Compile Heart to release Magic Librarian Ariana for Switch, PS5, and PS4 in Japan this Summer

Compile Heart has launched an official website for their forthcoming 2D side-scrolling action RPG. The game is titled Mahou Shisho Ariana ~Shichi Eiketsu no Sho~, which means “Magic Librarian Ariana ~The Books of the Seven Heroes~” in English. The game will be released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 in Japan during Summer 2025.

Previously, this game title was mentioned by Compile Heart among their upcoming releases for 2025. At that time, we only had a vague idea about the game, knowing just its title, release year, and platforms. Now, we have more information to go on: details about the storyline, main characters, and some screenshots of the 2D action RPG gameplay.

Story Synopsis

1500 years ago, I’d be the one to tell you about a legendary figure who transformed our world with the mystical arts. She bestowed upon us a quartet of enchanted books known as the “Books of the Four Elements” and an essential tool for their creation – a magical pen. With these gifts, she empowered humanity to tap into the hidden forces within us all.

In the course of understanding the idea of “magic” and believing in “magical abilities”, humans across the globe created numerous magical texts, using the tool known as the “Magic Pen”.

Among the collection of books, a trilogy named “The Books of the Three Manifestations” held magical abilities comparable to the “Books of the Four Elements.” Together, these seven books were referred to as the “Books of the Seven Champions,” and a system called “The Library” was established for their management and maintenance.

Currently, there’s been an unexpected event at the library, filled with vast knowledge and magical resources – the Books of the Seven Heroes were tampered with. This unauthorized action led to the disappearance of magic from our world.

Ariana, our diligent librarian, is responsible for restoring the modified tales of the Seven Heroes. With her unique library sorcery at hand, she’s able to step right into these books.

Can Ariana safely fix all the books while deciphering the mystery hidden by the Library?





Main Characters

  • Ariana Virellis (Japanese voice actress to be announced later)
    The protagonist of this game. As the only librarian in the world who has the “magic to enter books”, she goes to fix the Books of the Seven Heroes.
    She is also looking for the whereabouts of both of her parents, who went missing during her childhood.
     
  • John Berkeley (voiced in Japanese by Ryuzaburo Otomo)
    The chief librarian of the library where Ariana works.
    He ordered Ariana, who has the “magic to enter books”, to fix the Books of the Seven Heroes.
     
  • Vester (voiced in Japanese by Kikuko Inoue)
    An Automata created by Divina.
    She calls Ariana “Young Lady” and provides support to her livelihood.
     
  • Divina Orden (voiced in Japanese by Sally Amaki)
    A major magician who is conducting magic research in the library. She authored many of the books in the same library.
    Divina is also friends with Ariana’s parents, and she supports Ariana as she feels a responsibility to look after her growth.
