Byron Allen’s “Comics Unleashed“, a popular comedy panel show that was a regular on CBS stations, is set to return to the network, aiming to fill in some gaps once more.
Starting this fall, I’ll be hosting a new late-night talk show airing after “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” at 12:37 a.m. on CBS. This program will run for the entire 2025-2026 TV season, taking over the slot that was once home to “After Midnight.” After much consideration, host Taylor Tomlinson has decided to concentrate on her stand-up comedy career, leading to the end of “After Midnight.” So, mark your calendars and join me for an exciting new chapter in late-night television!
Byron Allen, who founded Allen Media Group and is behind ‘Comics Unleashed’, expressed his deep love for the show, stating, ‘This realm is never saturated with enough humor.’ He created this platform to gather the top comedians under one roof, aiming to provide uninterrupted amusement.
The Allen’s show suggests that CBS might no longer broadcast original programming at 12:30 AM, a slot they’ve filled with hosts like Tom Snyder, Craig Kilborn, Craig Ferguson, and James Corden for decades. With young viewers preferring social media clips over traditional late-night TV, CBS switched to the “After Midnight” format that offered lower production costs. However, even that approach seems to be abandoned. CBS initially seemed set to continue with Tomlinson for a third round, but they’ve since been actively seeking a new host to take over.
In 2023, when faced with the Hollywood writers’ strike and planning to replace James Corden, CBS resorted to using “Comics Unleashed” episodes to fill their 12:35 AM slot, which followed reruns of Stephen Colbert’s show.
I’ve been closely involved with the production of “Comics Unleashed” since its debut back in September 2006. This show has graced the screens of 14 CBS-owned television stations across the nation, such as WCBS in New York, WBBM in Chicago, and KCBS in Los Angeles, for a significant number of years.
