As a long-time fan of both “Saturday Night Live” and “Jeopardy!”, I am absolutely thrilled to see Colin Jost taking on the role as the host of “Pop Culture Jeopardy!” His wit, intelligence, and pop culture fluency make him an ideal choice for this exciting new venture. With his extensive experience in writing for SNL and his successful stint as Weekend Update co-anchor, it’s clear that Colin has the skills to keep up with the fast-paced, intelligent contestants of this new series.
On Saturdays, Colin Jost, the co-host of “Weekend Update” from “Saturday Night Live,” is now in Tahiti, reporting on surfing for the NBC Summer Olympics while nursing a toe injury. In addition to this role, he’s recently been appointed as the host for the game show “Pop Culture Jeopardy!”
In May, I learned that a new spin-off of “Jeopardy!” is set to air on Amazon’s Prime Video. Production for this exciting project begins in August, following my return from the islands. This series, originating from Sony Pictures Television and its game show division, is being touted as the first ever “Jeopardy!” series specifically created for a major streaming service (apologies to Crackle).
“Colin’s clever humor and intelligence perfectly embody ‘Pop Culture Jeopardy!’,” said Suzanne Prete, the president of game shows at Sony Pictures Television, in a statement. “He’s sharp and fast-paced, much like our contestants, and we are confident that he will be able to match their pace while making this new series unique to him. We couldn’t be more thrilled that he is joining us on this fresh adventure.”
The game show is structured similarly to “Jeopardy!”, featuring a “question-and-answer” format centered around subjects such as music, movies, TV, theater, sports, and various other topics. Each team consists of three members who participate in a series of tournament rounds. These episodes will initially air worldwide on Prime Video.
“Amazon MGM Studios’ Lauren Anderson is excited to announce that Colin Jost has joined ‘Pop Culture Jeopardy!’ as the show’s host. With his charming wit and deep understanding of pop culture, Colin is an ideal fit for leading this fresh take on a classic series.”
“The show ‘Pop Culture Jeopardy!’ is made by Sony Pictures Television, airing on Amazon Prime Video. Michael Davies serves as the executive producer.”
Jost initially became part of “Saturday Night Live” in 2005, and since then, he’s served as the co-host for “Weekend Update” starting from 2014. He has garnered five Writers Guild Awards, two Peabody Awards, and has been nominated for a remarkable 14 Emmys for his writing contributions to “SNL.”
Apart from writing “Staten Island Summer”, Jost is also recognized for his roles in movies such as “How to Be Single”, “Coming 2 America”, and “Tom and Jerry”. Additionally, he published a memoir titled “A Very Punchable Face” in the year 2020.
As for hosting “Pop Culture Jeopardy!,” Colin quipped, “What is: I’m excited.”
