Colin Farrell Is in ‘No Rush’ to Do ‘The Penguin’ Season 2: ‘I Have No Deep Desire to Do It’

On Sunday evening at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Colin Farrell could have received another accolade for his portrayal of the sinister title character in “The Penguin”. However, the actor has stated that he is not presently considering a follow-up season.

He made it clear to me backstage at the SAG Awards that he’s not eager for another go. He said, ‘I don’t want it, I don’t _not_ want it,’ emphasizing that they all gave their best in those eight hours. He worries that repeating the experience could tarnish the original, and so he’s content to wait. If a new idea comes along that fits well with Matt Reeves’ cinematic universe and is worth pursuing, he’d consider it, but for now, it’s not on his mind.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I eagerly await updates on the potential return of my favorite DC Universe series. Just this morning, during an interview with Adam B. Vary at EbMaster, Peter Safran and James Gunn, the masterminds behind DC Studios, shared some intriguing insights about a possible second season. When asked directly, they were evasive, saying, “We don’t know…” They went on to explain that there are numerous factors at play, with Colin, the star of the show, being the most significant piece in this complex puzzle. So, while we wait for more news, let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best!

Gunn mentioned an additional 800 pounds of makeup, hinting at the significant change in appearance that Farrell underwent for his part.

In the upcoming sequel of “The Batman,” it’s anticipated that Farrell will make an appearance, yet Reeves has chosen not to disclose specifics with him. As Farrell put it, “Reeves is quite secretive; he keeps the details close to his vest.

That said, Farrell still can’t believe he gets to play one of Gotham’s most well-known villains.

When I was around six to nine years old, I watched Meredith Burgess portray the Penguin in ‘Batman’. If someone had told that young child that they would one day play that character, and their makeup would be done by a pupil of Rick Baker, who did Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ video makeup, it would have seemed insane. However, these moments are wonderful, and I am incredibly thankful for them. This show has been incredibly exciting.

Farrell opted against partying late into the night following his SAG Awards win. Instead, he saw it as a special moment in time to be savored and then moved past. In just over an hour and a half, he’d be cozied up in his pajamas, ordering food delivery from Postmates, and watching Episode 10 of ‘Shōgun’ with his child, while the after-party was going on elsewhere.

Additionally, Farrell shared a humorous story about his interaction with Jamie Lee Curtis during the SAG Award ceremony. When Curtis announced the winner, she jokingly stated, “And the Actor goes to… the one who gave me COVID at the Golden Globes: Colin Farrell.” On stage, Farrell playfully admitted, “I’m guilty as charged. But Brendan Gleeson was actually the one who infected me! I was just passing on the fun.

Farrell shared that he thinks he got the virus when Gleeson congratulated him with a kiss following their 2023 Golden Globe win for “The Banshees of Inisherin”. He started the day saying he felt a slight tickle in his throat, but seemed fine to me. However, the next day Gleeson had COVID-19, and the day after that, I tested positive for the virus as well.
